I was there on a busy Saturday around midnight with my dog who was in respiratory distress. He'd just been to the doctor the day before after suddenly losing consciousness and stopped breathing for several seconds. He was diagnosed with spindle cell cancer at his regular vet and was set to be further evaluated on Tuesday. This occurred at the very same time that I was preparing for my vet's arrival to euthanize my kitty, Tabi, who had slipped into a light coma Thursday night. I was devastated at this as I had just lost another kitty, Toby, two weeks earlier to squamous cell after caring for him in CRF for 9 months. I give all of this background for two reasons: to communicate how fragile I have become and how little money I have left after emptying my savings completely. I was extremely worried when I walked in but immediately a technician came out to triage Pokey and she quickly took him back to put him on oxygen while we waited. Dr. Hunley was on that night and she listened to not only Pokey's history but my situation and she was very straightforward but kind and understanding and took my concern for Pokey and my limited funding into consideration together and formed a treatment plan. We were there for 5 hrs which was just fine as it is an emergency clinic just like any ER, and other animals are in much more critical states requiring surgery, etc. The entire bill was exceptionally reasonable. There is a $50 charge for emergencies but considering that they gave him oxygen, monitored him, and did blood pressures that were not charged separately as at most vets, the cost was probably lower. While admitting she was not very familiar with his cancer, she was very knowledgeable about ER medicine and getting him out of a crisis. She spent time educating me about what was happening, and was able to give me referrals to oncologists when I asked. All of my information and Xrays were sent to my DVM and a copy given to me including the disc of the Xray. We received excellent care and all the staff that I dealt with were very nice. This is the second time I've had to utilize their services and both experiences were very positive.
