I've used this vet for 2 years and called saying my dog was having an allergic reaction to something and that it had been going on for a few days so we wanted to bring him right in. They said they had no appointments and we could just drop him off at 7am the next day (before they are open) and they would work on him when they get some time. I would not have the opportunity to talk to the vet about the problem or be present while they examine my dog. They offered me an appointment 2 weeks from now. I have been paying this vet monthly for years and will be cancelling my service. We will not return.
I have brought all of my pets here for years. I currently have a rat terrier and a boxer that absolutely love coming here...meaning they willingly go with the nurses, no coaxing necessary. The nurses and doctors are always friendly and willing to help. And there is a high rate of turn-over but I don't feel as though my pets are being neglected. Someone on here had a complaint about the wellness plans--I just want to say that I could not afford to maintain my pets' wellness without them. My rat terrier had a horrible tape worm last year, she was throwing up blood. ALL of her care, including x-rays were taken care of and I had my healthy girl back good as new within a couple of days. My pets get their shots once a year, they are not over-vaccinated. I opt out of going to the bi-yearly visit unless I notice something unusual. The only complaint that I have, is with the automatic billing for the wellness plans. Every year, without fail, I end up delinquent on my account. There is always a mysterious billing issue with my card. My card has not changed...and if there is an issue, I truly feel as though the company or my local hospital should contact me personally to let me know. Do NOT red-flag my account and have me pay $700+ dollars to bring my account current eight months after the fact. This is partially my fault since I didn't notice the automatic payment wasn't being made...but all of my bills are auto-drafted so $60 dollars wasn't going to raise my attention. THIS is my biggest problem...not the care, but the payment system.
So far, So Good. As my Dog is a large breed and getting older I opted for the Banfield plan to give me better access to a vet in a more affordable manner. I love that the plan includes the dental cleaning. The staff is always helpful and professional and they are always able to give me an appointment that works for my schedule. I have had to go in as a walk-in, and the wait was a bit longer than usual, but they were efficient at getting to my dog in a timely manner. The vets are very knowledgeable and aware of the issues my dog's breed may face at different stages of his life which gives me the greatest peace of mind.
You can compare Banfield to a manufacturing plant/factory. Pets come in and out like clockwork. There will never be a personal connection with your pet and a loving vet. The vet turnover is high as well, so that relationship you crave for between your pet and a reputable vet is non-existant. Along with this, your are just a number. Your relationship with the company doesn't matter, they don't care if they lose you and will never attempt to share a high level of customer service with you. They will reel you in with "wellness plans". If only the value was truly there! It seems like an excellent idea at first because WOW all shots are covered, a dental cleaning, and unlimited office visits. You are spending $300-$500 a year on this just to feel that safety net that you have those services for free. When the time comes to count on them though, the additional charges will start appearing. "This" is not covered, "that" is not covered. We will give you a discount on the overpriced medicines. Need complicated procedures? You'll have to go to a specialist not associated with Banfield -- so add on those costs on top of the wellness plan. What is more entertaining is their antiquated system for keeping your pets records. God forbid that you take this pet from someone else that has them on their current wellness plan and you move. You will NOT be able to start them in your name unless you renew the plan and move them to your own record (if the previous owner has other pets they kept on the same account) unless you start completely fresh. Their system and their employees refuse to move over their records to your name. They will only put a note in the system. Many times, these notes are not even read by the employees taking care of your pet. So if there's an important medical note on the previous account where the old records lie and they didn't read it, your pet's health is at stake. If you call corporate offices, they will tell you that they do not have supervisors or managers you can speak with. When asked who they report to, they will tell you they report to no one and call an automated system if they are running late or need any HR related assistance. So there's no accountability, there's no one you can speak to if the regular reps you speak to on the phone are not assisting you. There's no one to escalate a call to if the rep on the phone is mocking you, laughing at your requests, and being outright rude. We have experienced this type of behavior more than a handful of times. And if you show any kind of attitude, they will cancel your wellness plan without telling you just because they feel you gave them a hard time with a reasonable request for help/support. On top of all of this, Banfield will overvaccinate your pets. When they tell you your pet needs ALL the vaccinations, that is FALSE. Read up on core vaccines and the dangers of all the "extra" vaccines that Banfield will push onto your pet. If you are looking for a lasting, loving vet to create a connection and history with your pet -- Banfield is NOT the way to go. They are a factory. They have no customer service. They treat you like utter crap and are the most unprofessional medical facility you will ever encounter. My stories are not the only horror stories out there, you can find plenty doing a google search. Don't be suckered in with their wellness plan. Find a vet that will truly care about you and your pet. Find a vet you can tell someone "I've been with Dr. XXXXXXX for the past 10 years, they are great". You won't find that at Banfield, I promise you.
Wanted to get the opportunity to share my terrible and extremely frustrating experience at Banfield Pet Hospital. Not so long ago I went to Banfield Pet Hospital at Sawgrass in Sunrise Fl and at the beginning was convinced that they offered really good care, was a serious place and the pet plan could be a good opportunity to give my pets all the care that they needed at an affordable price. In fact, need to say that they really know how to involve you on their business. With time I started to realize that sadly this place is all about making as many clients as possible to a point that I finally could experience closer. As a member of the plan, it is included for your pet to be checked as many times as necessary whenever something is going wrong. My pet wasn’t feeling good in the morning, so I called and asked for an appointment as soon as possible, because I was worried and something wasn’t right. They said I could wait until 3:30pm when they had a spot and I would have an appointment or I could go as a walk in but I would probably have to wait so as to be seen. Immediately I opted for having an appointment, my pet wasn’t feeling good and I really didn’t need him to be waiting. I arrived 10 min prior to my appointment and found a really full waiting room. There were 3 doctors on duty. Took them one hour to put me inside a room, after that a nurse came and took the symptoms, temperature…. the routine….. after that, 40 min passed and nothing, no doctors, no front desk to give me an explanation…. I started seeing people that were there before and after me leaving, so I went to the front desk and asked about the doctor, by that time was 5:10pm, they told me he was at the phone and would come soon. I waited for 15 more minutes and finally quit and left having NO assistance. Never got a call from them or anything like that. Now I have no desires to return, but I’m stuck with the plan that consists of a contract of one year and as you can imagine, would cost me a fortune to get out of. So please, if you are thinking about getting into this whole idea, think twice and take this into consideration, that place has no respect to the client, extremely unprofessional, and really don’t be fuelled believing that they really care about your pet. They grew up so much and took a proportion at the business that an unsatisfied client really doesn’t matter, they are there to make numbers. MARCH 26/2012 Would like to say that I’m really satisfied and glad that after exposing the problem and explaining my frustration, I received a call from the Practice Manager at Banfield Pet Hospital willing to understand the situation and offering himself to take care of my problem! Hopefully this will be a fresh restart, and my pets would actually have nice health care! Thank you for your concern, was really appreciated!
