Bay Moorings Animal Hospital has recently been purchased by Dr. Scott Trefz. If I had one word to describe Dr. Trefz, that word would be 'Exceptional'. I have taken my dog, Billy, to Dr. Trefz since they opened and I have never been disappointed with him or his staff. I have travelled and lived in three states (Colorado, California and Florida) for the last 13 years with my dog, Billy. Billy is a wire haired fox terrier and is somewhat of a higher maintenance dog. (skin and allergy issues) I will attest that Dr. Trefz is the best vet I have ever encountered in the 13 years my dog has been around. He, Dr.Trefz, has the personality of a terrier, tenacious, happy and caring. He is extremely personable. His staff, Karen, Lynn, Bonnie, Robin, Desi, Nick and all the others are nice, caring and happy. They all seem to be upbeat every time I'm there. I would highly recommend anyone that really cares about their pet to go here. You won't regret this decision. They guarantee their service as well. Check them out! Patty Tierra Verde, FL

Bay Moorings Animal Hospital had posted an ad on Craigslist that they were looking for a part-time kennel assistant. I was very interested in this job since my future career is to be a veterinarian. I am a 17 year-old that went in with a completed resume, application, and a desire to work for an animal clinic. Once I had an interview set up with Peggy, the office manager, we set up another appointment to have a "training interview." I arrived the following day and waited for an employee to arrive to begin the training, but he was 40 minutes late. Once he showed, it became my responsibility to take on all kennel duties such as walking the dogs, feeding the dogs, giving them their medications, doing dishes, cleaning out a litter box without gloves, and mopping and drying the entire clinic. I also assisted Dr.Cunningham while she removed sutures from a pug. I also assisted when Dr.Cunningham had to relieve a dog from hypoglycemia and another dog who had gotten hit by a car all while Dr.Cunningham talked rudely about her clients. After a 4 hour "training interview" I was told by Peggy that my resume and my application had been lost and that she didn't even know my name. She had also forgotten that I was applying for a part-time position and had filled the position before I even arrived for the shift. I was never paid for these hours and Peggy has refused to pay the $36.However, the clinic has no problem charging outrageous prices for procedures as well as milking labor from other interested applicants. Dr.Cunningham also said that I "didn't meet her expectations," but she let me take care of the animals. Although I want to pursue a profession in the animal industry, it's no guarantee that someone who cares about animals will be taking care of your family pet when you attend this hospital. An example of the responsibility they have towards your animals is this: a regular client, a bull mastiff named Sammy, had gotten out of their gate and had ran about 1 mile down a very busy street according to their current kennel worker. The kennel worker had to chase Sammy for about 30 minutes. They never notified the owner that their animal could have been hit by a car. Instead, the clinic gladly accepted the money owed for the animal being boarded there. My father has contacted the labor board, but they have failed to do anything about this. I have no other option but to warn you before you take your precious pets to this clinic.
Very nice but very, very slow. I can see it if the lobby was full -- it wasn't on any of the visits I made. I made 3 visits and waited an extra half an hour past my appointment time to be seen. I don't understand it. On 2 of the visits, the only people in sight was the receptionist and an assistant... still a 30 minute wait. On the last visit, a man was present to buy a bag of dog food... still a 30 minute wait. The place is relatively quiet -- you have the dogs in the back, of course, but that's normal. You get sent to a room pretty quick (without a clock) which is standard procedure done in human doc offices (including my own employer) so you think you are that much closer to being seen. My husband left the room periodically (claustrophia) and never heard a peep from other rooms. No explanation was ever provided. It's weird. Staff was pleasant -- I requested records to be sent to another vet. They did that pretty quick but (and this is another weird thing) wouldn't transfer test results. I had to place another call specifically to have that done. They did it and were really nice about it but why should I call again? So I don't get that and I don't get the waits. It's a shame .... I spend a bloody fortune on my animals and I swear I made my last vet's house payment for 20 years before I had to move out of state. Or maybe it was his Mercedes, I don't know. Anyway, the bottom line is, don't go to Bay Moorings unless you have plenty of time on your hands and some type of entertainment in hand because it gets lonely in that room. :-)
I have been taking my pets to Bay Moorings for over 1 yr now. I would never go elsewhere. Dr Cunningham is wonderful and so caring. The staff is great. The facilty is always clean and neat.
