This place is freaking amazeballs!!!!!! Please understand that this is an EMERGENCY CENTER, that doesn't know your pet's medical history so they must full diagnostics to determine what is needed to treat your pet's condition/diagnosis. It's not cheap but no ER is. Have u seen your statement from the Medical Center or St. Francis Hospital? I bet its way more expensive. They are open when your regular vet is home on nights, weekends, and holidays. I appreciate them being there when my regular vet couldn't be. Most of these reviews are geared toward the cost and not the care your pet received. If you can't afford a pet then maybe you shouldn't have one.
AVOID THIS LOCATION if at all possible. Unfortunately this is the only place around to go for emergencies. On 11/20/14 we took our Jack Russel to this center because he was hacking and coughing as if he couldn't get something out of his throat. (Our regular vet has now diagnosed it is a simple case of kennel cough.) However the night of the visit the vet gave us a long list of fees and charges adding up to approximately $700. This included giving him medicine to make him sick and vomit. They then took x-rays and said we are worried he may have something lodged in his stomach because he wasn't pooping at that very moment. I still don't understand how a dog happening to have poop in his system means something may be lodged. So anyways. Lots of Barium/x-rays/and hundreds of dollars later throughout the entire night as we were made to leave him overnight... our dog still wasn't in the mood to poop. So that morning the vet says lets give him an enema to see if that helps him poop. He poops right away and the vet says okay you're good to go. (Why would the enema not be trial #1?!) Next day he is still hacking and coughing. Take him to our regular vet. The vet tells us we essentially tortured our dog all night for no reason. There was never bloat/blockage/constipation. Just kennel cough. On top of all of this. If Animal Emergency hadn't got him to poop with the enema they were going to charge us approximately $1400 and cut him open to look for the problem. They use scare tactics to take your money when they know it is easy to take advantage of dog owners who are willing to pay under the belief that it will save their animal. STAY AWAY.
Almost two weeks ago, I brought my puppy in to be treated for parvo. The initial payment was pretty high, but for an after hours clinic, it was to be expected. The vet saw us and confirmed her parvo and immediatley started an IV and medication. For the next two days, we went back and did the same thing. After three days of IVs and medication and no sign that my puppy was getting better, we had her hospitalized at Animal Emergency. I am happy to say that after almost a week of hospitalization, Animal Emergency saved my puppy's life. They have a great medical staff and the care my puppy received was well worth the cost. Thank you, Animal Emergency Center!
My 8 year old Poodle had an accident on late Friday evening. there was a hole in the top of her head about the size of a dime. I called and was told that they are there, generally, only during those hours when no other vets are available, That's nights and weekends. Cost is $70 up front, when you walk in the door. I think this is reasonable for after hours service. No one else there when we arrive. Not surprising considering this is an "animal emergency room" that, unlike people emergency rooms, it isn't free! Registered my baby, got into an exam room, Vet Tech took her history and asked what happened and got her vitals. Shortly gave me an estimate for all costs. Basically the choice was pay or wait until another vet opens on Monday. Price, again, was reasonable, but not cheap. I waited while they put some stitch work o her head. All better, pain meds and told to return in days for stitch removal. The return trip cost is included in the overall cost I am already paying. days later we returned. Stiches removed, clean bill of health and gone in minutes! All done! Cost a couple hundred $$. Cost vs Value = Very good in my opinion. These people are available when everyone else is out at dinner, partying, sleeping. You would expect to pay a little extra for them giving up the prime social hours to be there for us. Good Value and quick, competent service!
My family has used this clinic a few times over the last few years. Most of the time I have not had a problem with the staff or the care that my animals have received. I have a new puppy that was just not acting right. After watching him for a little while, I took him to the clinic for them to check him over. After paying the up front fee of $ 70, I received a price quote of almost $ 500. But because I was told the puppy needed immediate care and could not wait until my regular vets office opened. I agreed to the charges. I was told I needed to leave him over night and could pick him up in the morning. I picked him up early the next morning and he immediately began throwing up and having a very bad case of diarrhea. Because of the time I was able to take him to my regular vet. I was told after more tests and another exam that he had not been diagnosed properly at the emergency clinic. After paying another $ 200 my puppy was sent home with meds and instructions for after care. If I had only relied on the emergency clinic my puppy would have probably not survived the day, This clinic should be avoided.
