My cat was losing a lot blood because of a poorly done spaying, so I brought her to this clinic in the middle of the night. When the vet looked at her, I was told the only treatment option would be to immediately perform AGGRESSIVE EXPLORATORY SURGERY to find out where she was bleeding from (for a cost of ~$1200). This was an absolutely ridiculous claim on the part of the vet that would have KILLED THE ANIMAL! She had already lost a good bit of blood and her tongue was turning white as a result, meaning that she could not afford to lose any more, so they had no business whatsoever cutting her open because they didn't understand what the problem was. They did not offer to give her fluids and watch her overnight, which would be the sensible response; they immediately demanded the most aggressive, expensive, and ultimately dangerous treatment option. In the face of their condescending judgment, I refused the surgery (signing a liability waiver which sounded akin to a death certificate), bandaged her up, and took her home. My kitty fully recovered in around a week. But if I took their advice, she would be dead now. As other reviewers state: if you love your pet, please don't take them here!
My cat was very sick and my vet was closed for the weekend. Sadly, I found this place online. The place looks nice from the outside, but the service was beyond unacceptable. The vet was indifferent, inpatient, and the treatment plan they offered was ridiculous. The attitude was take it or leave it. I wanted to understand what was wrong and what the options for courses of treatment were. I've gotten better treatment at the DMV. Since then, I've learned that not all animal ER's are the same. A friend called me while I was waiting, dumbfounded, and told me to go to another facility pronto. Warm, open, and more reasonably-priced. My cat is fine now, no thanks to Animal Emergency of Decatur. You can choose whomever you wish - unfortunately, we don't even think of investigating one until we need one ASAP.
I went to this clinic because my dog may have eaten rat poison. (I was not positive, but wanted to be on the safe side.) Before going in to the clinic, I called and asked what could be done for my dog. The lady who answered told me that I should definitely come in and see the doctor. She told me the doctor would do an examination, give my dog a blood clot test, give my dog a vitamin K shot, and send some vitamin K pills home with me. When I got there, a vet tech came in and took my dog's temperature. (This was the extent of the examination.) The doctor then came in and told me my dog looked fine and there was nothing else she could do. I mentioned what I was told when I called in and asked about the blood clot test, the vitamin K shot, and pills. She told me that my dog looked fine and there was no point in giving her a blood clot test. She said she could get me some pills if I wanted her to. (I was under the impression that the doctor would have told me what I needed to do instead of me having to tell her.) The doctor then left the room to get the pills. She never returned to answer any of my questions, tell me what to expect in the next few days, things to look for in my dog to see if she was getting better / worse, etc. The doctor at this place made me feel like she could have cared less about my dog eating rat poison. I feel like I have wasted my time and nearly $200. This doctor did nothing to help my dog.
