We brought our dog here about two months ago to be groomed. When we came to pick her up, we were shocked to see that she had been cut with scissors and ended up with a huge gash. The vet glued the wound, which re-opened a few days later. No precautions were taken (ie. no cone was given to us to prevent our dog from licking her wound). Subsequently, the wound failed to heal properly. We made another trip to the Medlock Bridge Animal Hospital and requested a cone ourselves, which allowed her wound to heal. After being in such extensive pain, our dog had stopped eating for the duration of the injury. Obviously very concerned, we brought her back to the vet. The vet stated that she had kidney failure. A hand-written piece of paper was returned to us asking us to consider humane euthanasia. Medlock Bridge Animal Hospital did not provide the proper quality of care throughout this whole ordeal. We did not expect for our dog to be given back to us in such a condition from a simple grooming. All in all, I definitely would not recommend this place to anyone.
I lived down the block from these guys until I moved away 13 years ago and had been pleased with their service overall. At that time they also offered boarding for dogs and I used them one weekend. When I picked up my two Westies on Monday they were covered with urine. I had paid to have them groomed when I dropped them off that Friday. When I took them out to the parking lot my dogs made a beeline to a patch of grass and proceeded to defecate at least three different times. They were in distress from not defecating all weekend. Since they were housebroken my guess was that no one took them out of their crate all weekend and they held it for three days until I picked them up. They also caught some intestinal bug because they spent the rest of the week having major issues. I returned to the vet and complained about the service they had provided and while they apologized and treated the dogs for the intestinal issue at no cost I vowed to never return. I asked for a return of the grooming fee I had paid and got some resistance since the groomer was a subcontractor but I said it wasn't fair to the groomer or my dogs for the lack of care my dogs received over the weekend. I told the vet to refund me the grooming fee and to pay the groomer out of their till. They finally agreed. I recently moved back to this area and decided to not use them as my vet because of that negative experience. Unless there has been a turnaround in ownership or protocol for boarding I will not bring my animals back there.
This vet is an old school non-commercialized style office. They might not be a great fit for someone who wants to pay extra to have modern commercialized style, but if you're looking for true, accurate pet care at reasonable rates this is the place. If you do not like cats, though, this place has a bunch running free. Its more of a community laid back style office. I plan to continue to take my dogs here for the long run.
Really great people. Have been bringing my cats here for 12 years. Best pricing for treatment. They staff is friendly. You are kept well informed. Recommended for pets.
My father in law brought my dog here to have him groomed. He is 79 years old and hard of hearing. My dog is currently under vet care at another vet, but he just wanted to have him groomed. There was a miscommunication between him and the receptionist and they ended up giving my dog shots that were not authorized, shots that he just had in April and an expensive office visit in addition to grooming him. They are on a very fixed income and when I called to discuss the misunderstanding with the office manager, instead of apologizing for the misunderstanding, Rachel Slone (office manager) told me that I needed to have a better grip on what my in-laws were doing with my dog and that maybe we should look into care for my father in law because he didn't understand the receptionist. First of all, no need to get personal. Second of all, if a new dog is brought in for grooming (or in their case, they thought care), isn't the first step to scan the dog for a micro chip or get old vet records before performing service? He is both micro chipped AND has a vet tag on his collar. Do not take your dog here, they are rude, not thorough and give your pet unecessary care just for an extra buck.
