I had an American Bulldog named Godzilla, who passed away last year to cancer. Dr. Janet and her staff was more the amazing with him and our family. She tried everything she could to help him and I, to be comfortable during this time. She never rushed us and always welcomed us with open arms, when I didn't know what to do. The morning I had to lay him to rest, she again did more then she had to. I will never forget her. She was an outstanding person and vet.
On Friday April 25 2014, our cat needed a blood transfusion to aid his low red blood cell count which had moved him into respiratory danger. Our vet and we had phoned ahead to ensure a quick start on his problem. That went well, but from thereon, no communication took place with us as they robotically went about their tasks. No warming blanket was placed on our cat even though he was in shock, no gentle touch or soft voice of encouragement was given to comfort him through the intubation ordeal or transfusion. At one point when he was being removed from the oxygen cage since he had stopped breathing, one of the vet techs yanked him out sideways by his arm /shoulder and whammed him down onto the work table. She didn't know I had come back into the room. And no one else working in that room had a problem with her behavior. This is a practice where humane treatment does not exist: no empathy for the poor pet victims or their frightened guardians. Where chat continues between them, but no important information is shared with clients such as "Your animal has stopped breathing again. We cannot get any blood pressure. His heart is still beating." Without these exchanges, a pet guardian doesn't know how to correctly proceed and Savannah Emerg Hospital likes it that way so they can call all the shots, and get that bill up high even if the situation is hopeless. There was no debriefing, no follow up report by email, 3 days later a curt report only a medical doctor would understand arrived since by mail since they refuse to discuss face to face with clients. I insisted that their harsh and unsuccessful treatment cease, and took my cat's corpse back to my home vet who respectfully treated his body for cremation. Why does this Emergency Hospital have so many similar complaints? They need serious re training or to be closed down. if you have time, go to Charleston for vet emerg services. They have refused to answer my questions so I have taken them to the State Veterinary Board in Macon Georgia. (See online) Complain there
Our schnauzer (Bo) became inflicted with hind leg and back paralysis, and we were directed to this facility from our general veterinarian. On the day we came in it was very busy (the Friday after Christmas). Dr.Shealy worked Bo into his busy schedule and we were seen right away. In these conditions time is of great importance and we were thrilled to have Bo in surgery that evening. Although the odds were not in our favor for Bo to walk again due to the extent of his spine problem, Bo’s progress was quick and easy after a better-than-successful surgery. He had to stay at the facility for 4 weeks for physical therapy and we were able to easily visit every day except Sundays. Everyone was great and we are very happy with the service and results. Bo is even happier than before the surgery. He is 7 years old and acts like a puppy again. We absolutely loved Dr.Shealy’s assistant, Tane!
I hope nobody has to go through what we did recently. Saturday night, Labor Day weekend we took our dog to this ER clinic, they informed us that she was very sick and before they could treat her we needed to give them $300 cash, we did not have that much cash on us, they would not take a check, we did not have a credit card. We had to take her back home and couldn't get her seen until Tuesday at another vet. Needless to say, she was worse and after 24 hours of IV fluids with Antibiotics, ultra sound, we lost her yesterday, SHE WAS ONLY 4 YRS OLD! I feel that if this so called ER clinic had started treating our precious Lilly that night, she would still be with us! You people have no compassion, you are nothing but money hungry vultures. We could have worked something out for payment but they wouldn't talk to us. Worst experience I have ever had with a Vets office!!! You people should not be vets.
I had a wonderful experience at the emergency veterinarian. I was greeted at the door and taken straight back to an exam room. The staff was extremely helpful. The female vet there was very thorough and sweet to my cat. Surprisingly they didn't do any unnecessary tests and just gave me medication that my cat needed. The price for a Sunday afternoon was a huge relief. I was expecting much more. I've seen the negative reviews and can't imagine these people being the same ones they dealt with. Maybe they hired a new staff when they moved into their new facility (which is great by the way). All in all it was the best experience I think I could have considering the circumstances.
