I just moved to the area. I called to make a appointment because my 14 year old dog needed a refill on a prescription. I specifically asked if they carry the pills that I was looking for over the phone. The guy said yes. I came in and had told the receptionist that my dog was also having trouble with her ears and I think they also might be infected. He said OK and tool me back to a room. He proceeded to take her temp. with a ear thermometer, and as she screamed because it hurt he told me he had to do it again. (heart was breaking) She had her check up and come to find out they did not have the pills that I had asked for. They had a expired box that was 5 mg more then I wanted. They said not to worry about the expiration and to just cut the pills in half. haha So now ever time I have to give her her pills the pill that I cut are in 6 different pieces. The Dr. said there was no ear infection,(I no my dogs ears, they were definitely swollen) and not 2 weeks later I am heading to another vet clinic to take care of a ear infection. NOT HAPPY!!!

Animal Hospital of Hawaii might well be the best vet on this island. We have taken our pets to this vet for three decades. We followed the company when they closed shop in Kaimuki and moved to their current Kapahulu location, maybe 15 years ago? We have trusted our animals here from birth to death - and we have never been disappointed in the care they receive. If you are looking for a vet that really cares about your animals, this is the one. If you're looking for a cheap vet - this is not the one.

When we first moved here, I took them all of my dog's records and asked if there was anything he needed. They said no but that they would let me know when it was time for his vaccines/checkups. Of course I never got any notification. I went down myself when I knew it was time for one of his vaccines. They gave it to him, but when I asked if he needed anything else, they said no. That didn't seem right to me since the year before he had gotten several vaccines like bordetello and dpp. (turns out I was right; new vet gave him several new vaccines). When we got back to see the doctor, he didn't talk to me at all--just looked at the dog, said he was ok, and that was it. I also asked to have his nails clipped, and then one of the staff members came in and whipped him up and took him away before I could say anything. Needless to say, this made me very uneasy. They didn't even ask first if they could take him. We will never go back. Now we go to Honolulu Pet Clinic--I highly recommend it.

We went there to get a few shots for our cat, so we can keep his records and health up to date. They have given all the shots and performed a Feline HIV test on him, without asking us at all. We just bought this cat as a kitten 10 month ago in a pet store and she's been stricktly a house cat ever since then. There is no way she could have gotten the Feline HIV since she's never actually met another cat. We were very dissapointed since the test was performed without our permission and it made us feel like the vet just wanted to make more money of us, the test cost $80 and our bill that day was over $200... Stay away from Animal Hospital of Hawaii. We now go to Blue Cross Hospital on Kapiolani.
