Dr. Joy Lynn Yasuda-Tanigawa is our vet, and this 5 star rating is for her and the Client service member Brenda. Without them there is no way I'd still be using VCA. Choose your Doctors lightly, they work independently within the Hospital. Our vet does her prices fairly and is issues discounts where they should be. I don't feel I'm being raped like it when I have seen other vets at this VCA. Brenda has the customer service that I've see on this rock. She really needs a promotion for all she's done.
My wife and I have been bringing our dogs here since they were puppies. Although I've personally not liked how long we've had to wait before being presented with our bill, I attribute this to the amount of customers the facility services. Everyone looks very busy, but when dealing with us they have always been exceptionally kind and professional. I have noticed that the prices tend to run on the high side, but I'm not willing to go lower than 4 stars due to the quality of the staff.
I've been here a couple times for my dog; Hickam NEVER has any appointments available. Everyone is really nice. The seating is a little small for the size of the facility that they have, but overall they are really nice & the vets do a thorough exam.
We took our dog to VCA to examine a mass and had a needle aspriration done (Dr. Jay's recommendation) to find out if it was cancerous. We received a call back that it was a sarcoma and to come in for a consultation. At the consultation we were told that Bailey had 6 months to a year to live if we didn't have it removed. An Xray was recommended to see if the cancer had spread which would help in our decision whether to have surgery or not....Bailey is 11 years old. No other masses were found so we opted for surgery because we wanted to keep Bailey with us for a longer period of time and stop any spread of the cancer. Since she was having surgery we also had her spayed and teeth cleaned. After the surgery we received a call from the vet asking how Bailey was and that though the case was rare the cancer was benign. I was very angry that we had spent almost $3,000 (tests included,) on surgery that wasn't necessary. Our decision to have any surgery done was because we were told Bailey would die without it. I asked for partial reimbursement since we had elective procedures (spay, teeth cleaned) included and after a week to 2 weeks of phone conversations we were denied. They won't recognize any responsibility for the incorrect prognosis. How can you tell someone that their dog is dying and after the fact say it wasn't 100%? Where is the justice in this??????
After going to this vet for 2 years I can objectively say to stay away from this vet. The one advantage they have over other vets is that they have emergency services so if your pet gets in an accident at a weird time they will be there, but other than that they don't have much going for them. The customer service is pretty bad. One time I just went in to buy some heartworm medicine and it took me over an hour. I'm still not really sure why the front desk had so much trouble. The thing is, this isn't really out of the ordinary either. Every time we have an appointment we end up waiting an extra half hour after it's over for the front desk to figure out our bill. I just don't understand what takes so long, even if it's not a busy time or day. The other thing about their customer service is that there is no semblance whatsoever of a personal feel to it. I went in all the time and have a Dalmatian which aren't common, and I recognized all of the doctors and technicians, but they never knew who I was and always managed to spell my name and my dog's name wrong. I guess I am just another nameless wallet of cash ready to steal as far as they're concerned. Another bad thing is the cost. This place charges so much for everything and throws in little non-descriptive fees that don't really make sense onto the bill. They also try and get you to do all sorts of tests on your animals for diseases and conditions that are extremely rare regardless of whether or not your animal is showing any symptoms for those conditions whatsoever. They act like you are a bad owner if you don't want to get these unnecessary tests.I just really got the impression that these people do not really care much about my animals and just wanted to get every penny they possibly could from me.
