I couldn't imagine taking my little one anywhere else. They are thorough, patient, and caring. While on the surface, it can be pricey, but I know that I am getting the best. I have spent lots of money over the years with vets who were not willing to look at other options (holistic) and dig deeper. That is not the case here - they listen, make suggestions and work with you. When my little one is sick, this makes all of the difference.
I have trusted the care of my cats to Cat Hospital of Chicago for 20 years. They have always provided the best care possible. I also love that they only treat cats. I believe this singular focus gives them a step up on other clinics. I've had two cats. One was like a well-behaved child and my cat today is a cat-from-hell when she goes to the vet. The way the staff and doctors deftly handle her is impressive. The cat I love is the devil. She is Rosemary's Kitten. They do a great job with her exams and treatment and I appreciate that they don't look at me like her behavior is my fault. "I'm not her Mom." Overall, I appreciate the skill and knowledge of the docs and staff and I am grateful for the care they provide to my cat.
Good things: I was able to get an appointment within the same week of requesting an appointment. They were really patient with my cat, who wasn't really a fan of the exam table and preferred being on the ground. They performed a majority of the exam with him on the floor, where he was much more comfortable/calm. They give new patients a tote bag with some samples, pamphlets, etc. Very comprehensive care for a vet. Ok things: Definitely not the cheapest veterinary care in Chicago, but the price for an annual exam wasn't astronomical. Not so great things: Their quotes for dental procedures are insanely expensive. My cat needs the lowest tier of care, and I need to save up $1k for the procedure (which they said could be a yearly expense). I will be getting a second opinion on this. They were a bit pushy with selling prescription foods, treats, etc as well. Considering my cat is healthy, I have no need for prescription strength items.
Love this place. So accommodating to Miss Layla. They take TIME with your cat. Explain everything and all options to you and it is a very nice place for my cat. Once she is in the room she loves just hanging out with them. Yes a bit more expensive but so worth it. They are the best!
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE AWFUL PLACE! Went there three years ago with my cat and thought they were overpriced and somewhat rude. Changed vets.... Returned Saturday morning with a very, very, very ill cat because they opened early and are close to home. The receptionist (male, sort of punk-rocky looking) first turned us away saying they had no appointments available... (Mind you, my cat was on the floor in a carrier with bad breathing issues and was not stable... NO ONE ASKED EVEN WHERE MY CAT WAS MUCH LESS IF SHE WAS IN STABLE CONDITION.) The RUDE receptionist said he would check with the doctors and see if he could fit us in. He left the reception area and came back about five minutes later. He told me to fill out some paperwork. I thanked him and asked what the doctors said, he replied, "Oh, I haven't had a chance to talk to them yet." (Again... still my cat was on the floor in a carrier with bad breathing issues and was not stable... Again, NO ONE ASKED WHERE MY CAT WAS MUCH LESS IF SHE WAS IN STABLE CONDITION.) I got upset and told the receptionist I was leaving and would never, ever consider bringing my animals (who are like family to me) to this place again. And I won't ever return! While I never thought VCA on Elston was the best place to take my animals for a possible serious issue (more of a shots kind of vet), I was proven wrong and my kitty was stabilized, treated, and sent home within an hour. VCA called me this morning to check on her! Thank goodness for vets like VCA who actually care about animals because CAT HOSPITAL OF CHICAGO SEEMED TO NOT CARE AT ALL ABOUT THE HEALTH OF MY CAT!
