The people at West Loop Vet have always done everything they can for my pug. Today, when I couldn't decide on a course of treatment, the doctor took the time to answer all of my questions and never pressured me to make a choice. They helped me fax Bogey's records to my sister-in-law (a vet downstate) and put up with numerous calls as I've flipped back and forth trying to decide. Always patient. Always kind.
The reason why I am even bothering to write this review is because I felt how "fake" the staff was here. Everyone here just seemed very stiff and formal and to be honest with you this is the very very first time in my life when my normally sweet dog ever pulled away from a rabies or distemper vaccine (ever). I normally took my dog to a clinic in the bucktown area and everything was fine and normal. Here I got to my appointment early and ended up waiting for a while. The fees totaled $175 which included a rabies, a distemper and examination. The doctor advised me to feed my dog more food since she only weighed in at 85 lbs and I don't mind the advice or feeding her more feed but it was the way the doctor told me that made me feel bad. No one likes being treated like this at the vet. The clinic is tidy, the staff smiles at you and tries to be polite enough but for my dog to pull away and NOT trust the vet tells me that I should just walk the extra few miles and visit my older vet clinic in Bucktown because my dog clearly did not trust the vet and this is me being honest. The clinic is very clean, very tidy, very clinical and very overpriced. I had to drop off a fecal sample before I kennel my dog and the fecal tests came out to $75 so if you add this all up the visit was $250 altogether for a routine exam. I asked the vet if maybe I should include grains in my dog's diet but she said the high protein no grain diet is best for my dog yet how am I going to make my dog gain weight where her metabolism is faster I have no clue. Honestly I wish the vet had come up with better suggestions for me regarding diet if she felt my dog was underweight. I am not pleased with how my dog reacted--she never pulled away from shots like this before and I am going to let my dog choose her next doctor.
Very professional staff, great doctors. They go the extra mile with their level of care.
I've been taking my cats here for over two years, and am overall very pleased with the vet. The first two doctors I've seen were not awesome, but I found Dr. McFadden and I am thrilled. She's great and very understanding and patient. My two cats don't always get along and she's had great suggestions about how to fix this. We previously saw Dr. Gonsky, who was terrible, and I would avoid taking your cat to him at all costs. I will only see Dr. McFadden when we go. The only reason this review doesn't have 5 stars is that I feel like this practice will throw in "extras" when it comes time to pay the bill. I think that's fairly typical for a vet's office, as it's happened before at other practices. Just be prepared for any "supplements" or "vitamins" mentioned by the vet during your visit to end up on your bill, and be ready to tell the person who checks you out that you don't need those things.
These guys are awesome! Ask for Dr. Boiling. My poor dog couldn't open her left eye, big, puffy and had a puss discharge... all happened overnight. I called and got in that day, Dr. Boiling and Sarah were amazing. Sarah greeted me and my bully like we were old friends, got down and said hi to her and was amazing, nicest person ever. Dr. Boiling got right down to the problem and allowed me to be apart of the process. Lastly Natalie, the front desk manager... Amazing. I have had dog insurance (yes i have insurance for my dog) and haven't been using it. She went out of her way to not only file today's claim, but ones from prior visits. Yes these people are a little more expensive then other vets, but you get what you pay for and when it comes to mans best friend... how do you put a price on that. Oh and my dogs eye (4 days later) looks back to normal! Make a appointment today, ask for Dr. Boiling and Sarah... and if your lucky Natalie will make the whole process as easy as it was for me!
