I thoroughly enjoy Dr. Johnson, I have two golden retrievers and one is a puppy. I have had no bad experiences there as they took care of my two guys very well. These people should go to a Banfield in Chicago and count their blessings. The Kildeer is such a great place that I actually have my wife bring the dogs all the way out there, where she works, to get them checked on. Very unfortunate that these other people haven't been able to have my experience with him. So far he is my favorite vet and we have had plenty.
I feel terrible for the person who lost their cat! I am so sorry for their loss. My experience at this Banfield has been great thus far. They stay on top of my cat's appointments and call to remind us, or to tell us he is due to go in. The vets have been very caring and we are overall very satisfied with our experience there.
THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY! I brought my Lab in to Banfield Kildeer because she had some sort of eye infection which flared up very quickly and looked very bad. I am on the Wellness Plan which covers office visits but I was told there would be additional doctors fees and test fees to check her out. We reviewed some of these for approval and they seemed to continue growing until I had no more money to spend. Once we spent all the funds I had available, I was told my dog would "go blind or lose an eye" if I didn't spend an additional $100 for medication immediately. I indicated that I did not have any more money but that I could pay by Monday (this was Thursday). After the dire warning about my dog losing an eye or going blind, they would not allow me to leave with the medicine if I could not pay up front despite my account having never been more than 7 days past due. When I asked for the written prescriptions so that I could fill them elsewhere when I got the funds I needed, I was told they "didn't do that". I persisted and was given a written prescription for 2 of the 3 medicines and was told I could not get the other one (a pain killer) anywhere but at a pet hospital and my dog would have to be seen again by that vet to be filled. I walked out of there in tears. Dr. Johnson never actually diagnosed what was wrong with my dog's eyes and the visit paperwork I was provided was incomplete compared to what I am used to being provided. In the end, I took the prescriptions to Walgreen's who not only filled them, they told me about a prescription card I could use for my dog - $20 for one year of coverage and I ended up saving $22.40 on that very purchase. I spent $40.58 to buy the prescription card AND the needed medicine, and my dog is much better. Banfield has not only lost a very loyal customer but one who will share her story frequently.
I've taken my two dogs there a few times after my other vet retired. I do have to admit there very thorough and good to my dogs, you are definetly going to pay for that service. My wife and I were short on money when my dogs were due shots, so I called to get an estimate before I took them in. Once I got there, they insisted on running new tests and performing in office ear cleanings, etc... Not knowing any better and worried about my dogs health I gave the go ahead. Upon walking out over two hours later, my bill was over two hundred dollars more then they said it would be. I looked at the broken down bill and they charged my $40 a per dog just to say hello even though they treated at the same time, and another $50 for disposal of the waste from the tests that they sugguested. I have gone in there a time or two before this occasion and cant seem to walk out regardless of what they do without spending over $200!! And recently I just called them to see if I could get some minor advice over the phone since we dont have the money for them to be seen, and they wont even consult with you without making an appointment first!! I love my dogs to death, and it's just like with your kids, who's going to tell a doctor no to a test or not take them in when it comes to there health? This vet has put in me in the position of paying my bills or my pets health and I dont apreciate. Their care and good nature aside, there business practices are ridiculous!! The sad thing is, I've only heard similar stories about other Vets in the local area, so there seems to be a limited number of alternatives.
I took my daughters 5 month old hamster to the Kildeer Banfield because she had an abcess on her neck and she was in pain. I got Dr. Johnson who obviously thought treating a hamster was a waste of time and beneath him to have to treat a hamster. He was rude and condescending to me (telling the assistant to explain what my options were when I was standing right in front of him) and extremely unnecessarily rough with my pet. He left the room and I told the assistant that I didnt want him to treat her - she said no problem. I found out AFTER her procedure that he INSISTED on treating her ($155.00 for 5 min work) even though she told him that I didnt want him to touch her again and I'd wait for another vet to become available. The rest of the staff was very nice, but based on my experience with Dr. Johnson, I will NEVER bring another pet there.
