While the people at River Bend were kind and courteous, I feel that they fell short when I really needed them. I brought my 12 year old Border Collie in on January 21st for a Pyometra surgery, but after 10 days and two more visits, she still wasn’t eating or drinking on her own. Seven days after the surgery she wasn’t eating or drinking on her own and was getting weak and dehydrated so I brought her in before her scheduled staple removal appointment. She got Baytril after another blood test. Two days later at the staple removal, Dr. Keener wasn’t convinced that she still had an infection, but said he didn’t know why she still wasn’t eating. She got a shot of Rimadyl, as well as five days prescription because he said it might improve her appetite. He also prescribed a high protein diet—saying that she just needed to eat more. She ate better for a couple of days, but then she was back to being listless and me spoon feeding her. When the Rimadyl and antibiotic ran out she was worse. It was two weeks by that time. She had been to River Bend three times in ten days and they still hadn’t figured out what was wrong with her besides the Pyometra. Their receipt did say that Rimadyl occasionally causes nausea or loss of appetite. She already had these symptoms when he saw her, though. On February 7th I took her to another vet for a second opinion. After a new blood test and exam and comparison with the previous tests she was given subQ liquids to fight the dehydration, a new antibiotic and a steroid called Prednisone. By the end of the next day she was better! Eyes bright and playing with puppies! Rehydration was huge and the steroid they prescribed made her thirsty and extremely hungry so she’s getting her strength back. She’s playing with me again is getting back to her old self. I called River Bend on February 8th and let them know what happened and that I felt my dog had been misdiagnosed and given the wrong meds. My little friend had almost died because they didn’t look closely enough at the symptoms and her condition. I won’t be back.
