My dogs love them! I have to disagree 100% with Pamela on her comments below re: Dr. Gretschmann and the OL Animal Hospital. I am 41 years old, have been going to OL Animal Hospital since my parents brought home our first family dog when I was 3 years old. For over 35 years, I've experienced nothing but consistent, caring, committed physicians who devote their lives to helping animals. I now have my own dogs, twin brittany spaniels, and I cannot tell you the time that has been spent with them at the Oak Lawn Animal Hospital as well as the care shown not only for them but also for me as an owner. A perfect example was when my male dog was attacked and bitten by another dog last Summer. I called the vet immediately asking what to do. They told me, "First of all, don't worry. We're going to help you. Bring him in right now. We will take care of him." I brought him directly to the vet. I was frantic with tears streaming from my eyes and my shirt was covered in blood. I was very worried the bite was going to cause permanent damage to his nose/face. Not only the Doctor, but two front desk girls also met me at the front door to take my male dog to the back to be examined immediately. Another offered me a private exam room for myself and my female dog to sit in while we waited so I could compose myself. (The examination room was immaculate, not an animal hair in sight. And all their rooms, lobby included, have always been clean/organized and decorated with the cutest animal prints and artwork. Many of the artwork is given to them as thank yous from satisfied clients - myself included - who also bring their animals there.) While I waited for my dog to be stitched up, the girls came and went, checking on me. They offered me water, gave my female dog treats as she was just as anxious as I was because I was crying. Both girls listened to my entire and redundant story of the dog attack, tolerating my sniveling and crying throughout. They took care of my male dog, filled two prescriptions right there onsite and sent me home with nothing more than a $30 bill. That pretty much covered the cost of the prescriptions - no additional charge for anything else. I would recommend the Gretschmann's and Oak Lawn Animal Hospital wholeheartedly to anyone who loves their animals. My dogs truly love the front desk girls, who call them by name when we walk through the door. They run to them, tails wagging. It makes me feel good to know they're so comfortable to be there. I have been here twice with 2 different cats. The first time we had to put a cat to sleep and I thought the female vet was rude and insensitive but I was emotional at the time so I forgot about my first impression and brought in another cat for tests about a year later. Well I should have gone with my first impression. The female vet was rude, openly hostile and obviously eager to close up shop for the day. She barely looked at my cat and then said she thought I should go elsewhere-but never explained why. Also the examining room was absolutely filthy. She finally did an x-ray and told me the problem could be this and could be that but it would cost hundreds of dollars to find out. When I asked her what she recommended she actually yelled at me! I was with my son at the time and he suggested that she might be impaired in some way so we paid the $250 bill-although she had been of no help what so ever, and left. I will never go there again for any reason. This is not a person who should be working with ANYTHING that is living.
