  • We are very blessed to have an emergency room for our pets in Peoria. The Tri-County Animal ER staff were wonderful to us and our boxer puppy: Rizzle. Late at night, Rizzle was running a high fever, very lethargic and she kept falling when she tried to stand up from some sort of paralysis. Our first dog of 18 years, passed away 6 months ago and losing our new puppy would have been devastating for our children. This was our first visit and the staff were quick to respond to us and getting Rizzle treated. Dr. Myers did the exam and she was very loving to Rizzle as though it was her puppy. She did a thorough exam and was spot on the diagnosis. The medication was prescribed and early this morning, Rizzle was back to her young self. The vet techs, were polite, friendly and all were caring to our puppy and to us. The cost of the service was reasonable. The Prospect Animal Clinic (Which I send my kudos and is a GREAT! Veterinarian clinic in the Peoria area), staff (Jody) followed up with us the next morning. I send my sincere thank you to all at the Tri-County Animal Emergency for being there in our crisis situation, and the compassion shown by the staff was noted.

I have taken several cats to the clinic. One was sent home after treatment and falsely diagnosed. Glad I took him to our regular vet. Poor little guy had pneumonia and the clinic dr. couldnt see it. The second trip involved a flea ridden cat and after treatment she was fine. Two different doctors. Prices are steep. It cost me $50 just for a cat have a flea bath.

I took my dog there this past Sunday because she was having problems breathing. When I walked in I met the front desk person who my first impression of was that he was under the influence of marijuana. I told him what was going on he took us right into a room and I told him I had brought my dog there before and he told me I still had to fill out paperwork. I filled out the paperwork and he came back in to take her temperature, when he did this he didn't even try to hold on to her and just put the thermometer in her hind and she tried to sit down and turn around. I was very angry cause that could have caused some serious damage. I had never ever seen a vet tech do this. I then held onto my dog so that he could take her temp and he left and never came back. The vet Michael Thompson came in and looked at my dog and listened to her breathing and she didn't like him much because she was panting and he just kept holding her mouth, just by listening to his lungs and hearing that she has allergies he decided it was allergy related bronchitis and gave her a steroid shot. He told me the shot should work within an hour and her breathing should be better and her hives should be gone (oh yeah she was covered in hives). He also told me if I needed anything else during the night to go ahead and call up there he would be there all night, and that I should call my vet in the morning if she wasn't better. We were only there about 25 mins. I go to pay and my bill was 141 dollars. I was charged 110 dollars just to walk in the door because it was after 12 midnight but the funny part is when I got there it was before midnight I just didn't see the vet until after midnight. We went home about 12:10 and she still continued to pant and have hives, at about 3:30A.M I decided to call because she was no better then she was when I first took her to the emergency room. The vet tech answered the phone and I told him I needed to ask the vet what to do because the shot didn't work, I was told I could bring her in for another shot it would be another 141 dollars. I asked him what did he not understand about the shot didn't work and it was a waste of money in the first place. He told me that was all they could do and to take her to my vet in them morning. Last night which was the following Wednesday, I had to call the er because I needed to know if two medicines would interact with each other. When I called I asked the girl that answered the phone (as I have many times before), she asked me to hold. When she come back on the line she told me that she could not tell me any information on those medicines unless they saw my dog. I told her I am not asking for dosage I just want to know if there is a reaction if those two medicines are given to a dog together. She began to get nasty with me and told me again she would not tell me any information unless she saw my dog and that I should call my vet. It was 10 at night and I told her my vet was closed and that was why I was calling her, I informed her that they have told me before if there was a drug interaction and thanked her for not helping me. I then called Walgreens and they had no problems telling me that there was no interaction with the two medicines I was inquiring about. FYI: I took my girl to the vet monday morning, it has nothing to do with her allergies nor is it bronchitis. She is gaining fluid and it was causing it to be hard for her to breath. We are waiting on some test to come back still but we have her on medicine and it seems to be helping. Please if you love your animals and it can wait until you can get to your vet DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS HERE! If you can not wait and you have to go here try not to let them do anything real serious. I have been here many times and called many times about medicines after hours and never ever have I or my dogs been treated this way. When I told my vets office they said for the last two months they have heard nothing but complaints about this place. Very sad because we have no other choice for after hours care!

We came to Tri-County when our dog needed sutures on a Sunday. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. They got her right in, and stayed pretty close to the estimate they gave us. And before we left, the vet took time to answer all of our questions. The facility was also very clean. Both my husband and I are very satisfied with our visit.

I took Buddy (a cat) there on a Sunday. Based only on his body temperature, the vet diagnosed him as having suffered from a stroke and started discussing euthanization. I've never agreed to euthanize, and I wanted to discuss treatment, but he gave me the "facts" which convinced me euthanization was the best course of action. I trusted his expertise and tearfully agreed to euthanize. Turns out nearly everything he told me was FALSE! Maybe Buddy would have died anyway, and I'm pretty sure some the lies were told to spare my feelings (like it wouldn't have mattered if I had brought him in sooner), but in my opinion, this is unacceptable. It's tragic that this was the only option on a Sunday. Nothing will bring Buddy back, but I hope at least one person sees this and thinks twice when considering this vet's suggestion to euthanize..
