The staff at the Cat Hospital are wonderful! They were so great with my cat, and helpful explaining treatments and options when my cat had cancer. She hated going to the vet before, but she loved all the staff there because they were so gentle and sweet to her, she actually liked going there!
I admit, Dr. Barclay is a very fine vet. His front desk staff is top notch. However, his interpersonal skills with human beings leaves a lot to be desired. He has been rude and condescending to me and my family several times. See the following examples: 1) When I was a college student I once asked if I could work out a payment plan with him and he quickly snapped "that is what your credit card is for, now isn't it!". He could have just said "no, we do not offer that option". 2) He constantly called my cat obese. My cat is well within his weight range, as other vets have told me. I always felt he was commenting more on my body type. 3) My father, who works at a local business that this man frequents, always said hello to him when he was in the store. Once Dr. Barclay rudely said "I don't know who you are!" as if he was angry that somebody was saying hello. My dad never said hello again 4) The final blow came when my father ordered his cats skin cream from independent pet meds provider, not knowing that it was a prescription medicine (no prescription label on the tube). Soon after ordering, my father received an angry phone call from Dr. Barclay stating that "I could have lost my license because of you!" before explaining that the cream was a prescription, and that it was out of date. When my father went to the vet to apologize for the oversight and pick up the medicine Dr. Barclay told him to find another vet and never come back again. What a jerk.
I also disagree with the reviewer who had a bad experience. We have used this clinic for all our cat-vet needs for many years. They were compassionate, caring and took great care of our 'kids". When one cat got cancer, the doctor explained all our options and took time to answer our questions. Yes, some options were very expensive, but he did not press us to go with the most expensive or least expensive option.
Yes, he may be a little rough, but cat's don't like the vet no matter how nice a doctor is to them. My cats can be squirly and yet they respond to him, and he's always been spot on with their issues. I brought one of my cats to a regular vet once and they didn't correctly diagnose his problem. 3 minutes into the exam he knew exactly what was going on and was able to provide solutions. I would recommend him as a vet.
