Dr. Cooley & his staff are wonderful! We have been going there for quite some time now & have no complaints. Dr. Cooley is very knowledgeable, and goes above & beyond for the animals he treats. The staff is always pleasant & will make you feel welcome. One of our dogs is older, and Cooley Animal Clinic is the reason she is still with us. I noticed some people complaining about the price. To that point, prior to Dr Coolie we were visiting a local vet near Whiting. His diagnostic approach was very limited and old school. His diagnosis of our Cocker Spaniel's constant coughing was that "She is old, you know how some old people couch, it's the same thing." We later went to Dr Coolie who drew blood, ran tests, sent specimens to Northwest Indiana University. Our dog was diagnosed with a chronic illness, treatable with medications. With the new diagnosis and medications, our old girl was running around like a puppy again. You cannot put a price on the network of specialist available through Dr Coolie's services. Would you prefer to use the Dr who makes assumptions, or the Dr who uses the latest in science & technology? Science cost money and you get what you pay for. Cooley Animal Clinic is amazing! We've always received quality care for all of the pets we've taken there over the years, but sometimes you need to tell them you're not going to pay for all of the tests they want to run. They're thinking of your pets health, not you wallet. I currently have a 15 year old dog who's in arthritic pain. We got her on some meds to handle the pain and if they cause long term harm, we're not concerned, because we're at the point were we know we're just keeping her comfortable until its her time. But often, he wants to run tests for things that we're not going to fix if they're found. I've never thought they were trying to bilk us needlessly, and I've never felt like they didn't care. I just think they confuse my love of my dog with my willingness to spend anything to buy her one more month. Once you learn to draw a firm line in the sand about how much you're willing to spend, they're quite reasonable and qualified. They've even worked with us to find cheaper alternatives to medicines and treatments, but you need to ask them about it.

We've taken four cats to Cooley's and they've always taken excellent care of our pets. The prices may be more than some of the other local vets but their service and care is worth the price. Especially when we were forced to put two of our cats down, the staff couldn't have been more comforting and helpful throughout the entire process. The care they've given to our pets has always been great.

We have a decent amount of experience with Cooley, as we've taken three of our pets there multiple times, and they seemed to be competent with the basics (checkups, shots, etc...) It wasn't until one of our cats actually got sick and desperately needed good veterinary care that we realized Cooley is a joke. Dr. Barneie was nice and pretty good with our dogs, but Dr. Cooley is just a jerk, and no one in this clinic seems to know anything about cats. Dr. Cooley is rude, condescending towards customers as well as his own staff, and doesn't seem to care about the animals at all. They misdiagnosed our cat multiple times and gave it medicine that made him worse. We decided to get a second opinion at another vet and they were able to diagnose him correctly right away, even telling us that the problem was "textbook." We have since picked up all of our animals records and have transferred them to Highland Animal Hospital and are much happier there! OH, and Cooley had the audacity to charge us $15 for each animal record we asked for from them. Good riddance.
