Took my puppy in for the $150 puppy package and walked out having to pay $305. After signing papers and getting the first round of shots, the vet took one look in my dogs ear and said "ear infection". Next thing I knew, they were charging me a fortune to aggressively treat my dog with injections, steroids, antibiotics, special washes and ear drops. My dog doesn't have an ear infection, he had a little bit of gunk in his ear. No inflammation, no redness, no itching, no head shaking. There isn't anything going on that justified the approach taken by this vet. This has been confirmed by a secondary source. I should have done my research because after looking into it, many people have been suckered into this same package with exactly the same result. Now I'm stuck taking my dog back two more times before I can switch vets because I paid up front for the 3 part package and I have to finish out the vaccines. After that, I won't be going back.
This was a nightmare. I took my cat to this vet because he had a simple skin rash that was itching him. I came away paying over $295.00. Our appointment was for 11:30am we never saw the vet until over an hour later. The vet would not give him any medicine until I agreed to a $110.00 kidney test to check his kidneys. I thought cleaning of the ears was included in the office visit fee and its not. Then he prescribes medicine that cost over $50.00 to treat the rash. I would not suggest going to this vet unless you are ready to pay for tests that dont need done. He was not professional and didn't like explaining why he wanted to do so many tests.
I took my dog to this clinic and was totally unimpressed. My dog is older and was having issues with incontinence. I paid several hundred dollars to have her "diagnosed" and was then told she needed a monthly prescription for which I was charged around $32. I checked prices of the medicine online to find a more reasonable price. On 1-800-Pet Meds, the medicine was half the price. After checking the status of my order, I found that the vet's office would not approve the purchase. I called the vet's office to see why. I was told that the medicine may not have come from the US and they never approve online orders. I asked why their price was double from what I found online and the lady did not know. I told her that I was not happy about the service I was provided and that after I had taken my dog there, I read quite a few bad reviews of their facility online. I told her that we would not be coming back. A few minutes later, the vet himself, called me back and explained to me that he was suprised the website I tried to order the medicine from could carry it because it is a controlled substance and that he wasn't willing to risk his DEA license. He then went on to say that I called his employee a B*!#H because I was unhappy with her answer. That was a totally absurd claim and I was shocked that she said that because I never had a problem with her personally and would NEVER do that. I told the vet that we would not be coming back and he followed my statement with telling me to never come back because we were not welcome. I felt that he called and attacked me! The unprofessional service this doctor exhibited was shocking to me. I don't understand all of the reasons and requirements for ordering the meds online and wanted an explanation, I believe I was WAY over charged for services and that in trying to find a more cost effective alternative, I had my head taken off. What a shame.
I brought my kitten to Shelbyville Road when I came back from college and she needed her first set of shots. We'd been taking our dog to VCA for years, but over the years the techs there had grown more and more intolerant of our skittish shepherd, so I wanted to find somewhere new. I was happy with the kitten package price and the treatment, but it was nothing out of the ordinary. And then my brother's puppy came down with parvo. When I brought that sick puppy to the girls and Dr. Thunell and they told me that she had parvo, I nearly died. My brother had just graduated college and didn't have the money to hospitalize her, especially when the odds weren't good. But they gave us another option. Every day I took her in and they gave her fluids and checked her out, advising me on how to nurse her through things at home. They came in on Sunday so she could get more fluids. With their help, that puppy is now a ferocious little ragamuffin who's always getting into trouble because she wants to play with everyone. Yes, it had a cost. But every time I call, their priority is to get my animal well within the means I have. Now all three of our dogs and the cat see them regularly, and everyone knows them by name. They may hate getting shots, but they love getting to see their extended family at Shelbyville Road Veterinary.
