I went to the emergency room last night because my cat was experiencing blood in his urine. Despite the fact that I had waited 4 hours to finally be seen, even though I had gotten there before three other patients the visit was made even worst when the nurse came in and told me I would either have to decide between paying an extremely high bill or to put down my kitty. I was completely distraught and disgusted that these were the only two options. I asked if all the things on the list were extremely needed at this point since I would have to take him to my regular vet in the morning and she plainly said yes. She couldn't even coherently tell me what all the things on the list were! I told her how much I would be able to pay and she brought in a brochure telling me that I could always get a credit card to help pay for things. Thr bill was brought down a huge amount, but my rating was due to the helplessness I felt at the fact that this nurse pretty much said either pay or humanely kill the cat. Case in point, I'll be finding a new emergency room to go to if I ever need one again, hopefully not.
