I'm looking for a new vet because I think Southside charges ridiculous fees. Every time I go in they want to do a wellness exam which is $50 and sometimes they slip it in without me knowing, GRRRRRRRR. As a human I don't get that many physicals. It's absurd. The biggest problem. We've been taking our dog to them for three years for the same problem. They always try either the same thing or give me something slightly different. It still isn't working. I am tired of getting charged an average of $150 per visit when our dogs problem isn't getting fixed. Lastly, their staff while nice, is so slow. Even if I have an appointment it is at least a half hour wait before seeing a vet, more like 45 minutes; then it's usually another 1/2 hour visit. I shouldn't have to take that much time out of work to bring my dog to the vet. I expect to spend that kind of time with my personal doctors not my dogs doctor. And seriously, how long does it take to get a small prescription and a bottle of shampoo to be filled (I waited 20 minutes for them to do that all the while hearing talking and laughing in the background - pay a little more attention to your jobs people). Very annoyed, frustrated, and done with Southside.
I have been coming here since my first dog was a puppy (1998). Dr. Schieffer and Dr. Gray are two of the nicest, knowledgeable, caring, and respectful vets I know. I just had an appointment for my rabbit with them (they offered to let me borrow a cat crate to transport him which was super helpful) and am getting ready to set up a well visit appointment for my other dog. The front desk staff are very friendly, and everyone is always able to answer my questions. It's a superb place for your pet care needs.
I have 3 boxers that I have been taking to Southside for the last 3 years have not had one problem with them. The staff is Great. They communicate to us on what would be the best time to get are dogs in for there Heartworms meds and shots. We will always take are dogs to Southside. keep up the great job Southside.
STAY AWAY! I am the type of person who likes to read reviews on places to decide where to go but I rarely write reviews after I have been. Well this place was so AWFUL that I wanted to put this review out there for others to have knowledge of. We first found this place when our dog was sick, they took great care of her so when our other dog developed a lump we took her to here because of the previous experience we had. Well our experience went to the crapper pretty fast. Lack of communication is appalling. Was told to drop our dog off around 7:30 – 8:30, we got there right at 7:30 and was told we had to wait until 8 when the vet got in to speak with them… Would have been nice to know that ahead of time to let our jobs know we would be a half hour later than originally expected. Called at 10 to relay information and check on our dog, was told we would hear back in about an hour to an hour and a half, called back 3 hours later was told it would be another hour, called back an hour later and finally got information. Notice how I was always the one who had to call them???? Then when we got the information we decided to only do part of a surgery, well they said it was too late in the day to do anything now, even though when I called at 10 it was to make sure that they allowed enough time to do whatever we decided to do. Picked up my dog at 5:30 after she was there all day, and it was obvious that she had not been let outside at all while she was there. I already knew I was going to go to another vet for a second (better) opinion. Well the office manager said to just let them know where to send her records to. So the next day I call to tell them where to send the records and I am now being told I have to come in to pick up the X-Rays. OKAY GREAT! Thanks for allowing me to drive and come back there to pick up X-Rays when I was just there yesterday and told another thing. Like I said, LACK OF COMMUNICATION 110%. Also since they communicate nothing to you, just so you know. IF you have X-rays done with them you need to ask for a copy or something because even though you pay for them they are not yours. But they wont tell you that. Also the routine maintenance on the X-Ray machine is never scheduled I guess the guy just shows up, so if your dog is waiting for X-Rays don’t expect anyone to let you know that. Again because they lack communication.
