It's a very cheap vet, but it's cheap because they don't do much. I took my new cat in with a few health concerns (obesity, anxiety, cloudy watery eyes), and the vet told me to go somewhere else to have the cat checked out because they didn't know enough to make any diagnoses. They didn't offer me any advice, any medications, or any tests for diseases by blood work. If you have actual concerns about your pet, go some place else, because all that this clinic does is take their temperature, weigh them and do a basic physical exam. They seem inexperienced.
Afford-A-Vet is absolutely wonderful. We took our boxer there when we got her at 8 weeks old. Her breeder had not taken care of her at all so she had lots of problems. The doctors at Afford-A-Vet were so helpful and informative and took excellent care of her. She wouldn't have made it a couple more weeks had she not gotten care and she was in great hands at this office. I wouldn't go anywhere else for my boxers needs. Also we love that there are two locations and that they have great hours so no matter what side of town we are on we have access to her meds or whatever we need. I HIGHLY recommend taking your furry friends to Afford-A-Vet. You won't be disappointed!
Your are completely incorrect, Mary. I, too, thought this business did not do surgical procedures...and had NOT taken my feline in for such. It was offered....and since the procedure is routine....I thought it would work out. It obviously did not...and I will continue to discourage others from using this establishment. That the 'manager' of this and other Afford-A-Vets in Lexington had no compassion whatsoever for the loss to our family speaks volumes. None....whatsoever.......brilliant! Never again. Forewarned is forearmed...but she apparently didn't receive that lesson. But she will...eventually, she will.
@Chris, I am sorry for your loss, but Afford-A-Vet does not do any surgical procedures. So you must have the wrong place. It says so on their site and when you ask their employees. **Straight from their site: "We are not a full service veterinary hospital, thus we do not do surgical procedures, intensive care, or boarding. Therefore, we have lower overhead than most hospitals and can keep our prices lower." Now in my experience this place has been nothing but excellent. They are truly there to help the customer and their animal. I had a small emergency when my dog had to go in with an allergic reaction from chasing bugs. We went in not long after they started their emergency hours where they charge extra, and still charged us their normal office visit fee, which is very affordable. They've always cared more about the well-being of the animal and the happiness of the customer rather than the expense. I never go anywhere else for vaccinations and other small injuries.
Iv been to the afford a vet on lowery lane 3 different times in the last few months because my dog broke out in hives. The first time they gave my dog her shots she needed and everything was fine. I came back the second time because my dog broke out in hives and so we got her prescription and at that time they told me my dog was beginning her heat cycle because she was a little swollen and bleeding a little bit...What upsets me is the third time I came it was because my dog was bleeding and she was extremely swollen, just like a normal heat cycle you would think, but what i didnt understand as to why this was happening TWO MONTHS after I had went to the vet the last time and was told she was in her heat cycle. So I went back and spent $116 to have blood work done and get another prescription for her hives (she seems to be allergic to something and we dont know what)...we got a pill form of my dogs prescription and it completely knocked her out cold after we gave her one pill, and when i finally got my call from the vet about her blood work it came back normal, and they have no idea why shes having these abnormal heat cycles a month apart from each other. Oh & the second time i went they did not record anything from that visit, not her weight, not the prescription she was prescribed...nothing. I am very unsatisfied with this vet. I wouldnt recommend it to anyone.
