I entered this internship to further my education with horses. Thinking that this program would put me in touch with professionals and prestigious horses, i enthusiastically moved my family to Lexington. I was placed at Three Chimney's Farm only to be used as cheap labor for a company which did not want to educate, rather they just wanted to physically drain me. I only was paid $6.50 an hour, worked 16 hour days, 6 days a week. When i confronted Leslie at Kemi and Glen my manager i was immediately put into a meeting with other Kemi organizers. It was clear that Three Chimney's was only using me as cheap labor, as well as the other student on site, and my manager even said " I have no plans on training you to be a manager." I at that time asked if i could be transfered to another farm but was told no. Basically i was told everything was going to stay the same and i would have to continue to do projects, write papers, and get paid almost half of what a general groom gets paid. Remember you do have to pay for this internship, it is not cheap, i was also paying for my own apartment because i did not want my family staying in a house with non working plumbing and a leaking roof like the other students who were actually assigned to a farm with housing on site. So if you would like to be taken advantage of, fleeced out of money, and put into a job that someone without a high school diploma can get, don't miss this opportunity. Just apply at any local farm during the sales season in the spring and get paid more and not have to do any homework on top of that.
