I really cannot recommend this veterinarian more! This is a small, local practice which caters specifically to the needs of your feline friends. My boyfriend and I together have 4 cats and each of them go to the two vets at the Cat Hospital of Metairie. We've taken our cats there for minor kitty needs and major emergencies and each time the vets have been friendly, helpful, kind and have successfully monitored our cat's health needs. Everyone at this Cat Hospital is knowledgable, friendly and handles your cats with care.
There are two feline-specific veterinary hospitals in the greater New Orleans area. Having had my cats treated at both of them, I greatly prefer THIS one. I am interested first and foremost in a vet that fully educates pet owners on ALL the options available to them, particularly when it comes to elective surgeries. THIS clinic does that. I want a vet clinic that devotes their limited retail space to products that promote the total well-being of cats, rather than useless, overpriced knickknacks. THIS clinic does that. My cats have been more relaxed and calm during their visits to this clinic than they've ever been at any other; on his first time there, one of my boys stretched out on the exam table and nearly went to sleep! I'm a very hard "pet parent" to please, and I am so pleased with the Cat Hospital of Metairie that I go miles out of my way to go there. I am so glad I switched!
I have taken my cats to this veterinarian for many years. Yes, sometimes the testing does become expensive, but I always feel that the cats have received good and humane care.I am always offered the option to decline a specific test and given an alternative. In the past, the wait could be long- especially after Katrina. I was just grateful that the Cat Hospital re-opened. With so much in flux after the storm, Dr. Miller ran herself ragged taking care of every client that came in. I went last week, waited just a few minutes before being seen. Also, another wonderful vet has joined her practice which no doubt will help. Before we found this vet, our beloved pet cat died a difficult death from a botched IV, given by a vet that specialized in cats, dogs, horses, etc. Since then, we have made it a practice to take cats to cat doctors, in the same way I would take a child to Children's Hospital, rather than have them treated by a doctor that most often treats adults. The care is just different.
The vet said our cat had cancer without even seeing her and she needed surgery. My wife was really upset. One year later, the cat is fine. She just has a cyst over her eye.
