I can't say enough great things about Dr. Welch and his staff. I had just arrived in Shreveport when my great dane began bloating. I took her in and they immediately began taking excellent care of her. Dr. Welch was extremely friendly and informative, explaining everything and dealing with my concerns and questions. I hope I never have to come back, but if I do I will have no reservations about it.
I have three dogs, and we have been to this clinic multiple times. The first time was when my first Beagle swallowed a sewing needle. Not only did they take excellent care of my dog, they also handled my panic well. When I was concerned about the cost, they quickly directed me to Care Credit, who approved me in minutes. They performed emergency surgery on my dog and made sure to call me as soon as they were through to let me know he was going to be fine. We have been back many times over the years - with three dogs, that's no surprise! Every time, they have been polite, professional, and helpful. Yes, they are expensive, but you are paying for acute care - often trauma. (Don't we pay more at the ER when we go?) Their costs aren't that much higher than my regular vet, and since it's for the care of my dogs, I certainly don't mind paying it. They are always prompt with faxing our paperwork to our usual vet, and they ALWAYS called a day or two later to check on the pet, which I think is amazing. We (me and my dogs) are always treated with courtesy, respect, and dignity when we go, and I wish I could give them more than 5 stars!
I was hesitant after reading negative reviews about this place, but I was eventually left with no choice. I had a good experience taking my 11-year old cat here, after he'd been vomiting all day, on a Sunday night. I felt the staff did a great job triaging and moving people through the clinic, when they were *obviously* swamped with a lot of animals more seriously ill than mine. Costs were comparable to the animal hospital I used when I lived in a larger city. Yes, I was there almost 4 hours, but that's part of going to an emergency service. Yes, it was costly, but emergency service is by definition - I doubt this clinic has huge profit margins. Yes, they ask about payment arrangements and expect payment. They are not a charity hospital, and it is expensive to care for animals when they are attacked by other animals with irresponsible owners. (Like one of the animals brought in while I was there.) That's a societal problem, not a problem with veterinary clinics. (Stop using the outdoors to babysit animals and leaving pets unattended because you think they aren't aggressive.) The technicians and veterinarians may not be warm & fuzzy, but they are working overnight, and have to deal with a lot at one time. I would ultimately not have a problem taking animals here again if necessary.
I brought my cat in on 3/12/13 because she had a seziure they ran her blood work and told me that she was dehydrated and wanted to keep her over night for at least $100 more than the $330.00 I already owed. I said no and took her home. My regular vet saw her on 3/15/13 and told me she was not dehydrated and that she had to rerun her blood work because it didn't make sense and saw that the Animal Emergency Clinic had ran my cats blood work as a dog. I called the clinic and ask for a refund only on the blood work $139.00 since they made a mistake. The clinic told me that the blood work wasn't much different and so they wouldn't refund me and that I could bring my cat back in to rerun her blood. I said no thanks that I would not stress my cat back out because they had made a mistake. I left several messages for the owner Dr. Welch and finally spoke with him on 3/18/13. He said that he called the blood machine company and they apparently said the test results wouldn't be much different between the species. I told him I found this odd since my regular vet thought the results were weird and had to reran them. She found an infection in her liver than the canine results did not show and also my cat wasn't dehydrated. Glad I didn't leave her over night to stress her even more. He told me that he would call my vet and if she said that the results were different he would refund me my $. Weeks later I have never heard from anyone from the emergency clinic. I feel that I was lied to and treated like I don't have a brain. Two different species here. I would not let my doctor run my blood as a chimpanzee and diagnose with something even though science says our DNA is 96% the same. I do not feel like I would go back to them so i pray my cats never get sick after my vets regular hours.
My mother's cat passed way I called them they did the Xtopsy to find out what had happen hello very polite very knowledgeable about the condition they treated us like he was a human instead of an animal highly recommend these people thank you
