Our cat got sick on a Friday night and we waited till Saturday morning to call our vet for an emergency visit. we were told that they did not have a vet on staff on the weekends. I then called other local vets(greenfield area) and to my surprise none of them had vets working as well. I then found Northampton Veterinary Clinic which has a vet on Saturdays. when I called, the woman who answered to phone was very nice. When I asked if they had a vet on Saturdays she said "of course we do, animals get sick on weekends too." Made me feel good that they are there for me if I need them. When we got there the receptionist was again very nice and concerned about my kitty. we only had to wait about 5 minutes until we got called in. My kitty had peed in his carrier so while he was getting checked out they bagged up his blanket, washed out the carrier and put in a new towel for him. ( I didn't expect that and was very please with the hospitality). Before any treatments were performed they itemized them and priced them all out and explained each one to me so I could make and informed decision as to the treatments I wanted/needed for my cat. Because this was an emergency visit there was a $75 charge which was explained to me over the phone before I even got there. This visit was much cheaper than if I had gone to any emergency vet. I was very happy with my visit there and will definitely be going back for regular visits and emergencies.
I have been going to this clinic for many years, mostly for my pet rats. It is very hard to find a doctor who treats pocket pets and Dr. Shelburne is the best I have ever worked with. I also bring my "red flag" kitty with personality issues and appreciate the patience that they take with her. The atmosphere is very friendly and professional. I have been to many other vets and will never go anywhere else. I highly recommend them to everyone.
I have brought all of my pets here for over thirty years. These are the most caring and professional vets, techs, and administrative staff-- clearly committed to the animals and their caregivers. I have the utmost confidence in the veterinary care my pets receive, and the compassion with which they are treated. Excellence all around, and nothing less.
I bring all of my pets to NVC and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else for general animal care. They are awesome! I know they will do whatever it takes to make my animals happy and healthy. In those instances where specialized care was needed (e.g. one needed a knee guru and another a cancer specialist and a behaviorist), they provided great referrals as well. You just can't beat the service or the care. They even have good bedside manner with people!
In short, don't go here. Anywhere else is better. We were clients here for a couple years before it became undeniable that they only care about making money. From recommending unnecessary stool samples, to expensive treatments (over the counter alternative available for much less), I never left there with a reasonable bill. We were fooled for a while, but finally some simple dog travel preparations (inside US) at the vet were miss managed, and messed up. Different techs and vets each time, none of whom knew the full story. We ended up with well over a thousand dollars in vet bills for travel prep. Had to fix their mistakes to avoid doggie quarantine. And today, a year later, are still paying for paperwork mistakes. Some of the staff working there seemed nice, but this place is run as a business so their first priority is for your money. I'm not surprised the only good review they have is from someone who has never been to a vet before. I'm the fourth 1 star rating, I'd give them zero if I could. This is the first review I have ever written, I saved it for the worst business I have been to.
