I was very pleased with Dr Maggio and the cataract surgery on my young dog, although I need to take the dog back because one year later the eye is a bit swollen. Hopefully it's nothing serious. I was not pleased w. a radiologist who did a scan on my cat, looking for cancer. He told us he couldn't see anything then later he reports to my vet that he saw cancer in the mesentery. There was little point going for the scan; my husband insisted on it. They are very worried about getting their money; it is a business. Fortunately I coulod afford the $5K. They don't call to check on the animal once it goes home and they are not friendly at the front desk. For some situations they have no competition...so there you are.

Because I had positive experiences when I had brought other people's cats here in emergencies, I took my cat directly here when he was having problems and skipped a visit to my vet. Since it could not be determined if his symptoms, all occurring in the lower half of his body, were related to the chronic loose stools he had been having for two years, he was seen by Dr Carney of the GI department. As it turned out, he was actually wounded and the wound was very badly infected. TheTufts surgeon on call agreed to open him up to drain, clean out, and flush the infected wound. I had concerns about general anesthesia because he has a heart murmur which has worsened, so they agreed to try to work with conscious sedation. They took him right away (I was expecting an overnight stay), they were done within an hour, AND they sent me home with many free samples, generously portioned, of food to try for his GI problem. He recovered within a week AND no more loose stools. All for $340.00, which was FAR less than I expected for cost. Couldn't be more thrilled. The staff was attentive, friendly, sympathetic, and very careful and kind to my cat.

I have great things to say about Tufts, from the very beginning they looked in my dog's best interest, and answered my questions completely, even took the time to explain everything I forgot to ask about. Carney, Cooper and Summerhayes (spelling is wrong I am sure) were completely transparent throughout my dogs entire care, from medication to surgery to end of life services. They all really went the extra mile. The only issue I had with Tufts is you have to know how to use their automated phone service. Tufts is very busy all the time and thus the communication via phone is slow, but if you call and leave a message they do truly get back to you as soon as they can.

Great services and caring staff but expensive.

I recently had to take my dog Mia to Tufts VETS. It was an emergency. Tufts VETS is open 24 hours a day. The other vet I called first would have scheduled an appointment the next day, which in my dog's case would have been far too late. The receptionist gave me very careful directions to the place. It's a little difficult to find, and it really helps if you've been down South Street before. There is a clear sign out front, though. The vet, Dr Lyra Sawzin, told us the various possible things that could be causing it and the treatments they could do. She did not make me feel I had to try heroic and expensive measures, which given my dog's age and condition would have been a mistake. I felt she communicated very clearly and explained the situation well and sensitively. She told me up front how much the treatment would cost, as an estimate. She brought it up, I didn't have to. They didn't try to keep enlarging the estimate, and the final bill was slightly lower than the estimate. TUFTS was very good about keeping us up to date on my dog's situation. Dr Sawzin called us twice over that day and the next when Mia's condition changed. Sadly, I had to have Mia euthanized. All of the Tufts staff were very sensitive about the entire process. I give Tufts VETS very good marks.
