I'm relatively new to the practice with my kittens, but the staff and doctors have been fantastic. They did a lot to make me feel at ease (being a new kitten mom), and were very easy to contact when I had questions after my visit. The front desk staff has been extremely accommodating with appointment changes and has always been pleasant. It's clear that they really love animals!
They are most helpful and care so much for my lab. He is my first dog as an adult so a lot of questions come up and I just call them they are very kind and understanding. When he was sick they took such good care of him & now he just goes for his reg visits and again all so nice. My boyfriends dog has gone there for over 13 years and they have been nothing short of wonderful I am beyond happy with everything.
Words cannot describe the level of care our cat has received at Westside. Dr. Trom, Dr. Murphy are simply amazing. I know other reviewers have complained about wait times and not being able to get through on the phone - but that is a clear indication of just how busy they are because people love them! Since I have been going to them they have responded to the demand by adding additional vets to assist. I adopted a one year old cat from the MSPCA who had special needs: a hole in his heart who was given only a few months to live without proper treatment. Under Dr. Trom's care, he has thrived and we've had him 7 years longer than we ever thought we would. They are always willing to squeeze us in if he's having frequent asthma attacks or his heart rate increases. They never nickel and dime us for every little thing (as we are clearly frequent visitors!) I will never go to any other vet as the Doctors are so wonderful. We've boarded our cat there as well and he wasn't happy - but that certainly had nothing to do with the wonderful staff that did their best to make sure he ate, received his medications, got him to take his 2 inhalers per day! Believe me, the daily rate for boarding was worth it's weight in gold to know that he was in a safe place, where his medications were administered and he was monitored on a regular basis. I am forever grateful to Dr. Trom and Westside!
My almost 9yr old foxhound has been going to Westside for past 7yrs, and my 2yr old lab since she was 10wks old .We normally only have to visit the vet for annual exams and shots, and the occasional ear infection with the lab. Have always found the vets to be professional, competent and kind. However, the same is not to be said for the front desk, where condescending behavior and rudeness are the norm. A call to the clinic can, and often does, involve a waiting time up to 15min. And when someone does answer you, they act like they're doing you a favor. I let these things go in the past, because as I said, the vets were always good and never treated us like the front did. But I had a very troubling experience the last week of March 2013. I had boarded the dogs in July for 4 days, and it turned out well for all, despite my worrying. They slipped back in their routine like they had never been away. So I was feeling confident about boarding them in March while I attended my daughters graduation from the military in S.C. I dropped them off at 2PM on Mon. Called on Thurs. to see how they were doing. I was told "Oh, they're fine." Picked them up at 8AM Sat. As soon as we got home, the older dog tried to greet my son, and was unable to make any sound except a pathetic hoarse squeak. I then noticed a gouge on his nose with dried blood. I called the clinic right away and the person who answered (after 7min) didn't know anything, but told me she would go out "back' to ask. The answer I got was " Well he was very verbal most of the time" ??? I spoke with Dr Murphy on Mon., and he told me my older dog was barking constantly, and they had to be moved down to the end. I don't know what that meant, but it just didn't sound good to me. He told me to call him back in a couple of days to see how the dog was doing. After I spoke with him, I took the container of dog food we sent with them to board, and noticed that it looked just as full as when I sent it. So now I'm wondering what they were eating? I called him back after a couple of days, and told him the dog was still very hoarse, hiding in my room, and not eating as usual for him. I told him how there seemed to be no food gone from what I sent with them. He gave this vague answer of "Well, they weren't eating well, so we gave them our food." Really??? And he had no answers about how his nose got cut. It's not that I don't believe my dog was barking, but he is normally not a barker, and gets along with most other animals and all people. Dr. Murphys' parting words to me were " Maybe you shouldn't board the dogs again. You should have a pet sitter come in." I'll mail you all of their records." I had no intention of ever boarding them at Westside again, but apparently I also have to find a new vet too. Very poor customer service all the way around. And considering my dogs condition after boarding at Westside, I'm thinking pretty poor care too. Over the years, I have recommended Westside to many people. I'll be sure to rectify that quickly. '
The reason it is so hard to be seen here is that the vets are the absolute best. Their clients have been coming here for generations and are loyal because the doctors are caring and go above and beyond. Dr. Trom saw my dog every single day (including weekends) for 2 months trying valiantly to save her life. She made home visits, taught me to do IVs, and did everything possible. When she could not be saved, Dr. Trom put my dog down and sat and cried with me. I would never bring my pets anywhere else. All of the doctors are caring and compassionate. It is too bad they cannot see everyone who needs to be seen and that they run late sometimes, but the reason they have such a busy practice is that they are the best. I never mind waiting because they have fit me in when needed and I know that sometimes emergencies happen.
