My husband and I started taking our 13-week old puppy, Bianca, to Downtown Dog Resort the Monday after we picked her up from a PA rescue, and she absolutely loves it! The staff members are fabulous, the facility is great, and in only 2 weeks, Bianca has turned into a much more well socialized young lady. We have only used the daycare service so far, but I would certainly also trust them enough to board her there if we ever need to (and that's HUGE coming from me, because I have never let anyone except for my sister babysit my dogs in the past). Yes, it is more expensive than leaving your puppy home alone all day, but if you sign up for a daycare package, the price is very comparable to hiring a dog walker to stop by once a day. I'm personally not a fan of inviting strangers into my house while I'm at work, and I also think that socializing a puppy is very important, so this is well worth the cost! Thank you, Jim and everyone else at Downtown Doggie! Keep up the great work!
I cannot say enough positive things about the Downtown Dog Resort and Spa. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and truly care about dogs. They take excellent care of my year old French Bulldog who LOVES it there!! They are very in tune and knowledgeable about the breed, will pull her inside if she gets too hot or over does it and give me updates about her improved interactions with other dogs (she doesn't have the best manners and wants to play with everyone!), who she likes to play with, and really know about all her quirks and nuances. I show up at all hours of the day to drop off or pick up and the place is always clean and the dogs who I see appear to be well taken care of. I've also seen how the staff interact with her on their videos and pictures, particularly when she isn't the subject of the photo/video but in the background. If she has had a particularly rambunctious day and has gotten especially dirty, they bath her free of charge. They also were over the top thoughtful and helpful during my pregnancy, often taking her in for me or bringing her out if they saw me pull up, boarded her with no notice when I had my daughter, and continue to remind me to call them when I get there so they can come out and get her so I don't have to disturb my baby to bring her in. There is another dog daycare literally 1/2 a block from my house but I wouldn't think of taking her anywhere else. In terms of the cost, I have found them to be comparable or less expensive compared to other facilities that offer less in terms of space, services, and boarding options. And they offer a discounted packages. Definitely check them out if you are looking for fun place for your pooch!
Picked my dog up around 5:00pm and the front dest attendant was complaining about having to wait for owners to come and pick up their dogs, I asked again when they closed because I thought it was 7:00pm and she replied "Ya, the last few hours of the day just drags". I retrieved my dog, and the minute we got out side, he had to go to the bathroom as if he had not been out for hours. When we got home he had terrible diarrhea - for hours, and was severely dehydrated. I felt so awful for him. I will never go back there.
I love this place, and so does my dog. I never have to worry when my dog is there because I know he is being taken care of. The supervisor, Mark, and his staff are fantastic. They really do care about the pets entrusted in their care. I highly recommend this establishment to all dog parents, if you take your dog there, you wont be disappointed.
I've been boarding my dog here for 3-4 years now, and we've generally had a good experience. My dog always comes home totally pooped, so I know he's getting plenty of exercise. I always have them bathe him on the pick-up day, so I can't really speak to the cleanliness of the facility as he always comes home smelling pretty clean. The staff is alright - sometimes they are completely professional, sometimes not so much. More importantly, it seems like they care about my dog as they always remember him by name and he seems excited to see them. I've also never brought my own food - my dog isn't a picky eater, and he's always been fine for a few days on whatever food they provide. The last time I boarded my dog he came home sick - he threw up 9 times in the 24 hours following his pick-up (he recovered after a couple of days). When I picked him up I asked the staff (as I always do) how he had done, and they didn't say anything about him being sick, so it's unclear when he first became sick. However, this doesn't seem to be the norm so I will take him back in the future. If he comes home sick a second time, then I will have serious concerns, but for now it just seems like a fluke.
