After my horrible experience at Banfield, I brought my dog here to find out what was wrong with her. The receptionist was nice as well as the vet and her assistant. They were both very informative on the condition of my dog and did not try to sell us things that weren't necessary (she knew I was tight with money). They were very sweet to my dog, complimenting her and talking to her while they did shots. Their prices are fairly reasonable (although no vet is cheap). My only complaint was the woman who did my dog's surgery... she called to give me details on how things went - she wasn't very informative and was very short with me over the phone. I asked multiple questions and she just kept repeating herself with the same answers. Other than that, this is a really good hospital.
This is a good practice. I've seen all of the vets at different times and they are all great--good listeners, thorough and concerned, nice manner when my dog was anxious or scared. Liked their approach to my dog's skin allergies, and to when she had a reaction to a vaccine--very reasonable. I'm comfortable trusting them with my dog's health. I see negative comments about the office staff, but other than some long hold times, I haven't had any problems.
The day receptionist is much nicer than the evening one, who can be rude and snotty towards new people while chatting with regulars at the desk, leaving people on hold on the phone for several minutes. I brought my cat in for urinary and thyroid issues, and the vets I saw treated him well. We keep seeing different vets, which is not great for continuity of care, but each vet has been very good, and when I've had questions the vets themselves are very good about talking to me on the phone and answering all my questions. The prices are reasonable, and the vets don't push unnecessary treatments or medications - something I've had issues with before at other vet offices. My biggest complaint is the smell. I realize that a vet's office isn't going to smell like roses, but the stench of pet urine in the waiting room is almost unbearable. The exam rooms are clean and sanitary, and the waiting room seemed tidy and clean, but I wish they could do something about the horrible odor. If this place hadn't come highly recommended, I would have turned around and left.
I'm shocked at all the positive ratings for this vet office. First of all, when you enter the vet office it reeks of urine which tells me that they are not doing a great job keeping the place clean. Yes, there is going to be a smell but other vets I have been to always smelled like a doctors office in which they clean down each room and hallway. Second, the receptionist (as of last year and hopefully she is gone) was one of the rudest people both in person and on the phone. Third, we have two aging cats and the receptionist was an obvious dog lover, spewing gooey comments to dogs and their owners right after treating my cats and I like third class citizens. Fourth, we have a cat that needs medication on a daily basis. We would call to refill our prescription but would get a month's dose here, a half month's dose there....there was no rhyme or reason as to the varying amounts of pills we were getting. To ensure that we keep a steady supply of meds, we wanted to go through an online vet pharmacy. They were speedier, didn't require me to battle the traffic in that area to get it, and they were cheaper. We had the hardest time trying to get Cat & Dog to fax a script for the medication to the online pharmacy. The vets were not bad, but the way the office and reception area are being managed is the reason why I'm giving this one star. Also, if you have a dog you may be treated more nicely. A vet office should have competent, professional, and courteous people on BOTH the medical and office sides of the business. This one did not.
Just returned from my first visit to the Cat & Dog Hospital of Columbia. After 10 unhappy years with my previous vet, I'm regretful that I didn't make the switch sooner. The receptionist was prompt and professional. Dr. Walters and her assistant were attentive, affectionate, and were happy to answer the many questions I had. As a side note: though decor is not important to the care of your animal, what a plus it was to enter a vet clinic that is so playfully decorated! Based on my first visit, I would highly recommend this Hospital.
