I brought my Chihuahua, Isabelle, to the Odenton Vet Hospital on a Saturday morning a few weeks ago. She was ill and clearly in distress, struggling to breathe. I was desperate and I was begging for help, instead I was told they were equipped to do emergencies and handed a card for a vet hospital in Annapolis, which was at least a half hour away. Isabelle didn't make it. She died in my lap as I frantically drove to Annapolis. Isabelle was 14 years old and I believe she was having a heart attack. Odenton Veterinary Hospital probably could not have saved her but they could have at least tried. They could have given her oxygen, (which the receptionist even said she needed), or at least made her passing more comfortable. They did nothing and I will never forgive them. If you really care about your pets, find a different vet. I recommend Falls Road Animal Hospital in Baltimore.
The service My cat and and I received at Odenton Veterinary Hospital was wonderful. The people there care about animals and their health. I got seen the same day I called once I explained what was going on with my Max. I tried to see my normal vet and they said to call every day for cancellations, after the 3rd day I said enough. I wanted to find someone close that had a great reputation of taking care of animals w/o charging for extra services. This Vet met all my expectations and then some. Very happy I took my Maximus here and didn't wait for cancellations! I will be making this my Veterinarian!
Have been using this vet for the past year for my dog and cat, because it is so close and convenient, but has always seemed overpriced. But after today I am never going back. My wife found a box of abandoned kittens while walking our dog today and he got ahead of her and ended up picking one up, so she rushed them over to the vet (to treat the one that got picked up, and to see if they could get them to a shelter). She gets to the vet and they take the kitten in the back to help it without telling her anything and then say she is going to have to pay for it. At this point she calls me and lets me know all this has happened and I ask why they are charging for the kittens when we were just dropping them off as a good samaritan act, and then they tell her it is going to be $2-400 for it!!! We argue with them about it and then they decide that they are going to have to euthanize the kitten (understandable with it being so fresh and the injury), but they have the audacity to charge $35 for it!? The kitten would have died on its own soon enough, and appreciate the shot to end its suffering, but such a ridiculous price and their attitude over all this has made me never care to return to them for anything if this is how much they care for animals.
I am looking at some of the poor reviews here and asking myself, "do these people live in an alternative universe?" No exaggerations- I have two special needs rescue Samoyeds who need frequent check-ins for various ailments or medication, and I have never met a more friendly and compassionate staff ever. But let's get more specific. I go to Odenton Vet Hospital because ten years ago one of my dogs was in a freak accident at about 7:30 at night. My dog Carter was in pain and I was in panic mode. I drove down to this hospital, a vet I had never brought her to, and they took me right in. Oh...did I tell you that the Odenton vet actually closes at 6:30 PM usually...which means that, despite being closed for over an hour, Dr. Steve saw us outside the door and brought us right in. He saved my dog. And I can't count how many times Dr. Slade was there to usher us through significant ailments and injuries because Carter is an adventurer and scrapper. But that's not the end of my recommendation. Last year I adopted another Rescue Samoyed in January who was coughing frequently. I thought it was kennel cough, but brought him just to make sure, and upon examination, Dr. Pepin-Slade saw the need for x-rays, only to discover that my dog Chase had an enlarged chamber of his heart that was pushing against his trachea. She immediately sent us down to the cardiologist and they gave him three months to live. It is the staff of Odenton Veterinary Hospital that I can clearly say have helped me keep him steady for a year, which really is a medical miracle. And the staff has been just wonderful. I will call right before they are closing and ask for a heart medication refill for my dog Chase and they will ensure he has it and stay open a few minutes if I am running late. The staff, and I am going to miss some folks so I will edit later is fantastic: Veronica, Kammie, Matt, Anna, Daniella, and Chris (and if I missed someone I will make sure to go back). So let's be clear- if you need a vet who will care for your animal companion like it was their own, there is no place else to go.
Fantastic. I read reviews about the front desk staff not being friendly. I've been there twice this week and different girls were working the desk, and they are all friendly, and very courteous. I like this clinic.
