Last July 28th our black lab Boudicca was injured in a brushsaw accident. The front of her leg was badly cut (we're really lucky she still has four legs). We run a sporting lodge about 75 miles NW of Millinocket ME. Of course it was a Sunday! Ray and Ron got the bleeding stopped and Ray and I set off to Brewer. It usually takes us about 2 1/2 hours to reach Millinocket but we made it to Brewer in three hours and five minutes. We were so very lucky to have Eastern Maine Emergency Veterinary ready to help us. Boudicca stayed overnight and had surgery on her leg during the night. We picked her up the next morning and she walked out of the kennel. She had a hard cast for several weeks and than a soft cast. Thanks to the great care she got and great follow up care from Katahdin Animal Clinic we can only feel a thin line of scar tissue and she uses that leg as though it had never been injured. Thank you! Thank you!
A month ago I called the EMEV to ask a few questions about my cat who was hobbling. The woman on the phone was so disrespectful and abrupt that I hung the phone up. Later that night I had to call back because my cat was declining, and she startled me so much that I felt I had no choice but to bring him in. I got there around 9pm, and sat there until almost 2am, for them to run every test in the book, take xrays, charge me $600 and then MISdiagnose him with "trauma" from possibly roughhousing with my dog. last weekend I went for a re-check with OUR vet and I was blown away to find that he had a BONE INFECTION from having fleas as a kitten.. there was never any trauma, no fractures, nothing as the emergency vet had charged me for. I will NEVER return there. They don't care about your animal, they care about getting your money, sitting on their cellphones and playing on that computer in their office on facebook.. Horrible experience, horrible office.
I have to say that I found this Vet ER to be extremely helpful. I came in on a Saturday morning and my Great Pyr had been hit by a car. She had multiple fractures and they saw her immediately. Going to the ER, you always know that it's going to be pricey, but that's the chance you take by sending them to the ER, right? What's more important, the animal's health and well being or a price tag? The staff was extremely friendly, helpful and my pet's well being was most certainly their top priority. I was extremely saddened to come home and read so many poor reviews of this ER, most of which seemed like financially driven reviews. I never once had the feeling that our dog wasn't their first interest, not our pocketbooks.
