I had made an appointment here for my puppy even though I hadn't heard anything good about this vet. My boyfriend ended up being the one to bring her and not only was the vet very rude to my boyfriend, but he wouldn't give us medicine for her worms, saying that she didn't need to get rid of them. After a little bit of arguing, he finally gave my boyfriend some medicine for the worms, but he didn't give him any instructions for them. He then wouldn't give him any information on other ways to get rid of her fleas since we have been trying to get rid of them for months with all the normal methods and thought a vet could prescribe something stronger. He was disrespectful of our care for our puppy and even went so far as to suggest that we were improperly caring for her. I have never been so insulted before and I wasn't even there for it. Everyone I have spoke to has had similar awful experiences with this vet and I am surprised he is still in business. I don't like to write bad reviews, but I hope this saves others from having to deal with this vet.
The review I read on here about the dog that was boarded there was inaccurate. They share a building with Down East Kennel and dog grooming. So that review would be for them not the small animal clinic. As far as the Vet goes they are all amazing and helpful and always will take emergency pets. They are cheaper and give better care than other places in Hancock County. Plus I know several people who work there and they all love animals. Probably more than people. But that is neither here nor there. Also most of the time The Small Animal Clinic has Kittens up for adoption. So if you are interested in adopting I highly suggest them for that as well.
I have brought 2 boxers there over the last 14 years. One with serious, lifelong health issues and 1 healthy little nut. If I could give 10 stars I would because they kept my special baby going for more years than we thought we would have him. I have always been treated with courtesy and kindness as have my dogs. the day we moved to Ellsworth, my dog went into allergic reaction and the nearest vet would not see an emergency because I was not a pre-existing patient. Small Animal Clinic said to bring him in immediately and saw him the instant I walked in the door. My dogs have never had an issue with the vets here either and can't get in the building fast enough; they never want to leave either. No matter who the duty vet is, they get a royal greeting and are happy to see my boxer even though she insists on jumping on them and slobbering them thoroughly I recommend Small Animal Clinic frequently and my friends are also happy with them..
We were camping at Lamoine state park when our dog had a case of colitis. The park rangers suggested this vet and we were very happy with the service received. The front desk was friendly and the doctor was amicable and it was apparent that he was concerned for the patient's welfare no matter if it was a walk-in or a regular patron. I give them high marks for helping us out in a pinch. If I lived here instead of just vacationing, this would be my dog's regular vet.
I boarded my dog there and came back a day early to pick her up and since they weren't expecting me, they couldn't cover up the fact that they had her laying in her own urine. Her white coat was yellow with urine on her feet, chest and belly. It was obvious they knew they were caught. I have had other bad experiences there and so have several of my friends.
