I cannot possibly say enough good things about Dr. Bjorn Lee and Penbay Vet staff. I was unhappy with the vet service I was previously using, but didn't know what to do or who to see. At random I met a man who had 3 poodles who told me about this service and Dr. Lee in particular. I had an older miniature poodle at the time. We made an appt. to meet Dr. Lee before we made a patient/doctor appt. Thomas seemed comfortable with Dr. Lee, and I liked what I saw so I did make the patient appt for my dog, and I was always more than satifsifed with the greeting staff who always went to the pet first, then the human, with the Vet assitants who always handled my dog very gently and kindly, and with all the vets. One of the assistants made a medication drop at my home one day which was so kind and much appreciated. Most outstanding was the care Dr. Lee gave to my Thomas when he was sick and dying. He had been diagnosed at age 15 with congestive heart failure which is a chronic condition and I was supported by the staff in my decision to let my dog grow old gracefully and naturally, without going through tests and medications. I was confident in my ability to care for my dog, to observe his comfort level and to get care when he needed it; I would not let him suffer. A year later Thomas went through a few days of increasing fatigue and weakness. He began to prefer to rest on the floor rather than in my lap, and he lost the use of his legs one evening and became incontinent. I called Dr. Lee and we decided to wait overnight and see how Thomas was the next morning. The morning came, it was Sunday, Thomas slept late, and when he was waking I held my breath hoping he could stand. He could not and I did not force him to go outside. I called Dr. Lee and he came to our home within a couple of hours after he tended to an emergency. He came prepared with large white towels and medication. I was amazed to see Thomas was almost relieved to see Dr. Lee as if he knew the doctor was there to help him. Dr. Lee examined him and told me what I already knew but hoped wasn't so - Thomas was dying and uncomfortable with his heart and breathing. Dr. Lee was very gentle with both my dog and myself, and while I held Thomas and talked to him, Dr. Lee gave him his medicine to relieve his suffering. Dr. Lee let me continue to hold Thomas until I myself knew Thomas had passed, and I was ready to say good-bye. Dr. Lee wrapped him gently in large white towels, held him in his arms as one would a baby, and carried him out to his car. I accompanied them to the vehicle. A few days later I received a card with a kind note from Dr. Lee and the staff, with signatures. It meant so much to me. Thank you again for your wonderful care of my Thomas, Penbay Vets. I highly recommend this service and cannot imagine anyone would be other than satisfied with this choice.

Best vets in the area--possibly the state! Their facility is state-of-the-art and the staff is great--from the doctors to the vet techs to the front office. They are the only AAHA accredited vet practice in the mid-coast. My dog always loves her trip out to visit.
