I love this place, the quality of care and concern for my dog are just outstanding. We were referred here on a Saturday after a disappointing experience at a NH emergency center. The Maine staff were on hand to greet us on a wet Saturday afternoon, three people came to my car to help lift my dog out and into the hospital. At this point I didn't know what was wrong with her, just that her back legs were becoming paralyzed. I had hoped it was just a slipped disc, unfortunately that was not the case. The first doctor in Maine to see my dog even noticed that she was getting an infection from urine scalds and treated that immediately. Dr. Pothoff performed her MRI on a Sunday (yes, a Sunday) and called immediately with the bad news. My dog has a tumor in her spinal cord. I decided to pursue radiation (in Massachusetts) and chemo (thru Maine) and have been back for a follow up visit. They are all so professional, kind and caring - I have no hesitation in recommending this place at all. They are even less expensive than the place I started with in NH. Better care for less money seems impossible but this is the real deal. Thank you Dr. Pothoff and staff for being so kind and caring. With your help my Ruby will hopefully live a long and healthy life.
I did not have a good experience with MVRC. While the staff was great the outcome was "unfortunate" in that 2 procedures were performed in a 10 day period for a cost of over $7660.00 and both failed miserably within 2 to4 days each..Other Vets I have spoken with agree with my opinion of the 'unfortunate" outcomes were a result of bad medicine. The outcome was great for MVRC but not for my dog who had to suffer through this and following procedures to correct their errors and for myself to incur all the extra expenses involved. . The owner of the facility took no responsibility for his hired surgeon. Truly an "unfortunate" experience for me which is the excuse I was given for both failures, that it was unfortunate. Ironically had they done what I had originally asked for. my dog would have suffered one operation and I could have saved a further $8K in medical expenses. My opinion is while competent and with a good staff the management of MVRC seems focused on their bottom line more than on the quality care.
Yes they are pricey - have you seen their overhead. But that said - we have received fair and good service from the business re: other pets. Not this time. Maybe it is staff. But we left our cat there thinking we were getting one course of treatment and instead the ER staff followed a different path that was not on the estimate and not as was agreed. We have pet insurance but the staff did not want to provide us with the medical records and notes that I need to file the insurance. We had to get our cat without getting the treatment we thought we were getting as the bill was getting out of hand. Even with insurance - we still have to pay the bill and get reimbursed. Sadly I have to recommend you find the other animal hospital in Portland if you need a high level of care that your local vet cannot provide. If you do choose to use this clinic, be advised that you should be vigilante everyday to make sure they are providing the care that you contracted for.
I brought my dog down there for an consultation on very agressive adenorcarcinoma cancer ferferral from our vet.. { cost 395.00 ( consult!!!!!!!) Ripoff very disappointed!!!!!} also with an est. on debulking the cancer, so he would be a little more comfortable for his 6 months or less of his life he would have left thats what You told us.., You gave us no possitive outcome. debulking costs (2861.70!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! est. no possitive outcome) said he could have chemo also,no possitive outcome. est. didn't ask for it. leave there totally heart broken, upset, crying. went back to our vet windsor veterinary clinic. on the same day they said they would debulk it for 700.00 est. they removed tennis ball size tumar on one side of his anus, had surgary again to remove more on other side and under anus two weeks later, You told us he would be incontinant (He isn't)even after previous surgary 1.5 years ago and the two surgaries now. now doing 3 rounds of chemo.everything done should be less than quote from referral center to just debulk cancer, also gave an after hour # call anytime. no guarantee on how long he'll live, cause of the type of cancer, it may come back. but as of now he doesn't have any tumor masses and isn't incontinant also there is hope. he is home and doing very well. Thankyou windsor veternary clinic for saving our dog,our best friend! Your the best! Thankyou maine veterinary referral center for no hope what so ever and the very exspensive consult that should be refunded because of you not offering any hope, saying he'll only live 6 months or less and over charging us. Dan
Nice building, beautiful location, outrageously expensive! I will drive an hour North from now on for a decent price.
