The team at Blue Pearl helped us through our surgery for our terrier, Mani, when she fractured both of the bones in her front leg. Originally, she was seen at an animal hospital but we were referred to Blue Pearl for the surgery. We were required to sign an estimate, but I appreciated the up front information of costs and the transparency they had in the billing department. For a plate, 10 screws, 8 weeks of visits and replacement casts the costs were reasonable. While the vet on subsequent visits was not always the vet that preformed the surgery I feel the team that worked with Mani was well informed and her care did not suffer. We all love our animals and they are part of our family, so I hope that it isn't necessary to visit Blue Pearl, but I am extremely satisfied with the results we had. Mani just had her cast removed today and she is a bit whiny but on her way to being able to walk again, and this wouldn't be possible without the excellent care that she received.
The staff at BluePearl took wonderful care of my cat after he ingested a poisnous plant. They were compassionate and caring and did everything to make sure I was comfortable and informed about the treatment plan, including showing me where my cat would be staying for a few days. They also called everyday with an update and I never felt rushed when I went to visit. They even sent me a picture of my cat the first day which was a wonderful surprise! While I can't comment on how the hospital would handle immediate life threatening cases, they followed the same protocol my vet had recommended and ensured that my cat came out of the potentially deadly ordeal completed unscathed. They answered all my questions and took the time to explain everything to me. I would say that they were quite expensive, but I think that is to be expected of a facility of this caliber. You have to understand that you are not just paying for the services and medical products but they are a business and the overhead for running a 24/7 facility is included in the cost. Yes, I wish I didnt have to pay as much but in the end it was worth it knowing that my cat was in good hands and being well cared for.
"It is what it is." You're probably going to be paying more here than at your normal vet. That's the price to pay for a 24 hour emergency clinic and all the overhead that it entails. Before any treatment happened they did need a signature on an estimate. The above said, I was charged just under $90 for the emergency exam for my dog. This vet clinic was recommended by my Vet's answering system, they reference all their emergency patients here. The receptionist knew of my vet and said they've referred patients to each other. My dog had been lethargic for a few days. The last straw was when she got up from lying down, convulsively threw up, and collapsed onto the floor. I brought her in and we were welcomed by a warm and friendly staff. The intake process was simple. We were brought to a room and I described what was going on. They then took my dog to the back to get her vitals checked. After that they told me what their check-up found. There wasn't anything obviously physically wrong with her. They suggested doing blood work and x-rays. I wasn't keen on spending the money on x-rays, so I only asked for the blood work. The blood work came back and a diagnosis was made. I decided to bring my dog home and wait till morning to go to our normal vet with instructions to keep an eye on her heart rate. When I checked her heart rate 2 hours later it was low, barely able to sustain her. We ended up getting back to Blue Pearl what sounds like 30 mins before her heart would have stopped and she would have died. When I got there they began hospitalization before an estimate was signed. It was expensive, and I was fortunate enough that my family was generous enough and capable to help pay for the hospitalization over the phone. I don't know what would have happened if I would have had to go with one of their financing options. If they really would have waited to completely treat or not. The way they were acting I think they would have gone ahead while I filled out the required paperwork. You have to decide how much an animal's life is worth to you and make a gamble. Some of the other reviews, unfortunately, didn't have the same happy ending I had. If my dog had died during the night I can't say I wouldn't feel similarly. Do what feels right in the moment and don't second guess yourself. If I had to live that night over again I would have done everything the same. Unfortunately when something goes wrong with our animal friends they don't have insurance that many of us are lucky to have. Out of pocket medical care is expensive. I think that's just a fact of life. Neither is treatment 100% guaranteed. Bottom Line: My dog would have died without Blue Pearl. They were compassionate and knowledgeable. The vet on call continued to read about the disease my dog had after we left not expecting to even see her again!
If you love your dog do not take them to BluePearl. They don't care about your animal at all they only want your money. They give terrible wound care instructions and when you call for help they are useless. I took my dog to a real vet and found out she had problems that they didn't even tell us about. If I bring my dog into your clinic to get emergency surgery I expect you to fix all her injuries not just stitch her up. So you send her home to suffer and when I bring her back because something isn't right you just want more of my money. You keep her for hours and you can't even tell me that one of her bones was cracked and stabbing her. This is just beyond cruel. She would have had a chance had she have gone anywhere else.
Took our dog there after experiencing an apparent heat stroke, had high temp, labored breathing and could not walk well. Care was prompt and compassionate, they kept us updated as promised. Unfortunately, our dog got worse and did not make it. As far as care I feel they did everything that they could. Large sums of money were required up front before they would do anything, which was a bit unsettling, but they were polite about it and explained the charges in detail. The reason for my low rating came after everything else. We very specifically requested that our dog's collar be returned to us (we couldn't remove it ourselves because of the nasal cannula attached to his head for oxygen delivery). When we went to pick up the remains, the collar was "missing". The receptionist looked for it, and when she couldn't find it, stated that it must be at the cremation facility. She was to check with the Vet and Tech that treated our dog, and the cremation facility and get back to us. After not hearing anything, I called the cremation facility myself, and was told that animals arrive in sealed boxes, and are not opened unless specific instructions are given, so if the collar was not removed by the vet, it was cremated along with our pet. They also said that they had spoken to Blue Pearl (but no update was given to us). I called Blue Pearl back immediately, was put on hold while this receptionist looked for it - after not finding it, she said she was going to contact the Vet and Tech (which was exactly what we were told the day before). So they failed to honor a very simple request, and then continued to give us the run around, instead of admitting the mistake with grace. Having his collar was very important to us, like being able to keep a small memento. The loss of this item was devastating, almost like losing him again. Very disappointing, and unprofessional handling of the issue.
