My family has been using this vet primarily because of its proximity to our home and because it is less expensive than many other vets. I rescued a full grown male cat at the end of winter 2014, I immediately got him neutered, vaccinated, and tested for FLV through Carol's Ferals. I have been housing the cat since then. From the beginning he had terrible smelling stool, and not the regular terrible. I was immediately concerned of him having worms. I brought him to Weisner Innis and Schoen, telling of my concern, to which they proclaimed there was nothing wrong with my cat. they gave him a small does of anti-worm medication "just in case", and another rabies vaccination because "there was a case found in a bat in my area". The visit cost over $100. A week or two later, the problem persisted, but now he was also acting unusual and defecating outside of the litter box, diarrhea and solid. I brought him in to the vet, telling of the new concerns and retelling the old ones. Once again they sent me home declaring there was nothing wrong with him. The vet asked if I had a stool sample, I didn't, I expected her to request one, she didn't. I'm not the vet, if they were to think they needed a stool sample to better identify his problem, shouldn't they be the ones to tell me to bring one? But to settle his tummy they gave me powder to put in his food and a refrigerated medication, also costing around $100. These medications did little if anything to help his problem. In fact, he has gotten much worse. Now his stomach feel lumpy and twisted, his glands are swollen, he has become more lethargic, and his stool occasionally blood. The other day I finally found actual evidence of worms. Before now there had been no physical evidence that I could see. Now he definitely has worms and I have to take him to the vet AGAIN after them telling me twice that he was completely fine. This time I have a stool and vomit sample. I am very displeased that my feline had to go through all of this for so long, and the ending conclusion was the same as what I, a 19 year old art student, had suspected from the beginning. I feel like I was made to wait in the clinic for far too long, my pet was seen hastily and obviously poorly, and I was charged for inefficient medication that was prescribed without proper examination and diagnosis.
If you can get past the intimidating receptionists (who are actually pretty nice, but crazy busy) and rough building, this vet is a secret gem. I have been taking my cats to them for 13 years with excellent results. Dr. Innis is by far my favorite vet. He is friendly and straightforward and has never been judgmental about my failures as a pet owner (the last time I went in, for an emergency, my girls were several months behind on their shots and i felt terrible about it) The prices are very reasonable and the care is great.
We started taking our do here last year and we've been happy with the services they have provided. The veterinarians seem to really enjoy what they do and have always treated us kindly. They are professional and knowledgeable. The office staff can be a little rude at times, but they do seem to be very, very busy, so I'm willing to give them some grace. I find the office staff to be knowledgeable, as they helped me choose a flea and tick medication for my dog and knew a lot about different brands and places to buy it.
This office has been exceptional with our animals. We have had the pleasure of dealing with all of the vets at one time or another, and they have performed everything from routine check-ups to emergency surgery. We have 2 dogs and have had various other small animals over the years, and they have treated all with kindness and compassion. We have even had a hamster put to sleep there (yes, I know...a hamster. it was my daughter's...enough said) I have never experienced the attitude that some other reviewers claim. I would insist that perhaps the negativity they experienced may have been a personal perception rather than anything intended by the staff. We came to this clinic from another well-respected clinic in the area. I will say the other clinic had made us feel very uncomfortable at times, and shamed us into performing more life-prolonging work on our cats than was realistic. In retrospect, that office had us perform hundreds of dollars worth of treatment on a cat that was in complete system failure at 19 years old. It was the situation there that led us to Weisner, Innes, and Schoen in the first place, and we have been so very pleased with their realistic assessments of our animals health. As a real bonus, they have very fair pricing as well. We have used several clinics in the area over the years, and have found many of them have little hidden fees and extras. We have not had that experience at all here. To the contrary, my older dog has had two knee surgeries and two ear hematomas repaired at this facility. The prices charged were inclusive of the after care, and consistently much more affordable than any other I have heard of. We have recommended friends and family alike here, and have yet to be disappointed. No business or office is perfect and you cannot keep everyone happy all of the time...that said, these guys are consistently very, very good.
I trust them. Knowledgable, caring vets and staff. Reasonable with treatments and product recommendations. They are human. I did have one instance where I was told an alternative procedure would not work (non-surgical). They strongly recommended sugery. I stuck to my decision and was very happy with the outcome. They did give me the choice, which I would not have know about if not for them.
