I contacted Ann on New Years day about a problem with my dog. She dropped everything she was doing, helped me out from home and then went into her office to prepare a prescription for me. She left the prescription on the door for me to pick up and did not worry about the fee. I called a week later and paid for the prescription drugs, and they were thanking ME for making the call. Like other reviewers have stated... If you want to be pampered, go some hoity toity dog spa. If you want your animals in good hands, Ann and her team are capable, skilled and educated.
I had 6 shelties undergo the bark softening procedure. Everything went fantastic. I felt my dogs were in excellent, caring hands for the most part. End results have been exceptional. The vet was wonderful, I got the impression her main priority was the dog's health. However, the office staff was unprofessional. All seemed to have an inability to handle the stress of multiple clients even though they were all patiently waiting and no more than 4 waiting. One girl was consistently almost pleasant, the other rude, short tempered and non helpful. For procedures, you have to drop off your dogs in your crates as they have no kennels; the building is a little old house. Staff all but flatly refused to assist me with carrying the heavy crates and I'm over 60 years old, rather I was yelled at for scratching the precious floor when I struggled to drag them, and it wasn't very busy... Luckily for me, a wonderful gentleman in the waiting room assisted me. In the future, I will have an extra crate so I can carry the dogs back and forth. Parking is very close, even at the front door. Very little parking, but there weren't many clients. Price for the service was outstanding. When I go to my reproductive specialist, I basically get the red carpet rolled out for me, no waiting at all, staff all smiles and exceedingly helpful. EVERY time I go I feel I'm leaving my dog in the most capable hands...but then I'm paying 4 x the normal cost of other vets. Salem was HARD to find as GPS and mapquest were wrong in finding their location, beware of that. It's about 5 miles from food and a bathroom as well; out in the country. The staff was so rude, I felt I wasn't allowed to use their toilet. Sadly, no one did anything that made me feel I was leaving my beloved dogs in capable hands. What they did do was make me feel I was horribly imposing on them. Bottom line: I will return for bark softening for the rest of my barkers as it is a delicate procedure and Salem tends to specialize in it, but I wouldn't take my dogs for anything else. The office staff needs replaced or have extensive education on dealing with the people that are fueling their paycheck. I feel it is an ok little clinic for low priced vet services if you have no alternative.
I went to the clinic today for the first time with a new puppy and we were both treated fairly and I was not over charged. The Vet/Doctor Ann Cavender that my pup saw took her time even though we didn't actually have a scheduled appointment and didn't make me feel rushed. I left feeling assured and great full. If your looking for an honest vet with out the bells and whistles of a fancy art studio look for the office this is the place to go! If your looking for a bright atmosphere and are looking to over pay for the fancy office go else where.
If you want to be a pampered pet owner, this isn't the place for you. If you want one of the very best vets in the area (Dr. Cavender) for your pet, you've got the right place.
I have taken my dog to this place on two separate occasions. The first visit I had wasn't pleasant in the least bit but I thought I would give them a second chance. I wish I hadn't! The second visit was one of the worst experiences Ive ever had! The receptionist had a disgusted look on her face the entire time we were in there and didn't say one word to us. The main doctor, Ann Cavender, was absolutely the most rude person Ive ever met! I couldn't believe a place like that was still in business!
