    My 13-year-old diabetic cat started failing quickly last Friday night. I called our vet on Saturday morning but was told they were completely booked and there was no one available who could euthanize my kitty (I go to a small vet so it was understandable). I watched him suffer through all of Saturday, into Sunday morning. I didn't want to take him to the emergency vet hospital for several reasons, the top two being the prohibitive cost and so many stories of rough handling and lack of empathy. I called Banfield at 8:30 Sunday morning & talked to Cheryl, who immediately went to work trying to work us into a packed schedule. Her voice was kind and empathetic and I could tell she understood what I was going through with my kitty. They got me in within an hour and treated my kitty and I like were the only patients there. They did do an exam, since they had never seen my cat before, and then explained the process of euthanization. When Dr. Gardner came to see us, she did explain that there were tests and treatments that were available if I wanted to go that route, but she understood my decision to not put him through any more pain or suffering but to just let him go peacefully. Everyone there handled my cat with the utmost gentleness and care and when all was said and done, Dr. Gardner teared up & I got a nice hug from Cheryl. Banfield's prices may be higher than other vets, but you do pay for the convenience of being open seven days a week and into evening hours. I will continue to take my pets to our own vet, but I know that in a pinch, the Banfield staff is there with gentle empathy and concern.

    Dr. Kara Carmody is the BEST. She is so sweet and patient with me even when I ask a dozen questions at each visit! She always takes time to explain things and answer all my questions in a way that makes sense. You can tell she (and the staff in general) really love and care about animals. Both of our dogs love her too! :)

    We had to put down our dog of 14 years. It was the hardest thing I ever had to go through. The people at Banfield Woodbury were so kind and patient with us. They made it peaceful and at our own pace. They even sent us a sympathy card! Very nice. I highly recommend taking your family pet here for care.

    If you care about your pet, please take them to a family owned vet business or private practice. I have never had a good experience with Banfield. My GF and I recently bought a puppy and brought him home and he was very lethargic and kept getting sick. We thought maybe it was normal for the puppy who was 10 weeks to take a bit to get used to his new home. The next day came and he was acting the same so my GF decided to take him in to get checked out. (He had just seen the vet 5 days prior to this had received his appropriate shots, and was A-OK.) My GF and her Mom go in to speak with the vet who right away said she's very concerned with the dog, says he has fluid in his lungs, and tells my GF and her Mother that she doesn't think he's going to make it. Says for them to run tests and give him appropriate medicine it will be well over $700 so we should take him back and "exchange him" or receive our money back. She was devastated, called me crying and we couldn't believe it, we thought he was going to die. So we bring him back to Petland where we had purchased him and showed the very nice lady the huge report the vet and Banfield had typed up and explained to her what she said and how she didn't think he's going to make it. She immediately downplayed the situation, calmed us down, and explained to us that yes she can tell he's having trouble breathing and that hes very congested, but she's going to put him in a nebulizer, and start running an IV to get him fluids and simply says the Puppy has a cold, but she's going to take care of it. This was a week ago now and our Bichon/lhasa apso boy Rocky is doing just fine. The staff at Petland has done more than we ever imagined to ease us of the terrible situation we seemed to have come across. She could not believe that the Vet at Banfield would put the fear of God into our puppy without even doing something as simple as trying to reduce his temp but just told us she was "sorry there was nothing she could do." She also explained to us that she's has a few friends that are vets and one previously worked for Banfield and could not believe the pressure there to drive sales and revenue vs. making sure everyone's pets are cared for as they should be. I apologize for the long post but I just want people to really consider where they take their pets. We thought our puppy had no hope because of the people at Banfield and we were devastated. Luckily we did what we needed to do and Rocky is going to be just fine. Its worth noting that this is not my first bad experience with Banfield and now that I know they are purely sales driven, my past experiences all make sense now. I had a Golden puppy that I had put on there wellness plan and every single time I brought him in they were wanting me to run tests and give him shots that did not need to be given. So again, please take the time to do some research before you bring your pet here because I would not recommend Banfield to anyone who cares about there pet.
