Sadly, we had to bring my mom's dog in to be euthanized due to her age and health. My sisters, my niece and I were all in the room with our pet. She was a much beloved pet and we were all hurting. The young woman that walked us to the room was so mechanical and stiff, without a hint of sympathy or kindness. The vet was very kind and gentle. When we came out of the room after all was done the same young woman was talking disparagingly about a pet owner that had called. We stood there waiting to pay while she was talking. Then the price they told us we owed was more than what we were quoted on the phone before we came. Please trust me. It is not worth saving any dollars to go here. Go where they are much more professional and better trained on how to treat customers!!!
I used to bring both my pets here and never had a problem until this afternoon. My dog was experiencing some skin issues so I decided I needed to get it looked at. I was not sure if he had allergies, dry skin, or fleas or what. My dog is a black lab and he is about 75 lbs so he is a BIG dog, but he is also a BABY. He has never hurt anyone and we had him since he was a puppy. We had Toby, my dog, fixed at Lemay Animal Hospital and since then my dog feared that place. He resisted every time we needed to take him there but we thought it was normal for dogs to fear the vet! Since he is a large dog it was impossible to hold him still on that high table for Doctor David W. Majchrzak to examine him. Toby resisted but never showed signs of aggression. My husband was holding him and Toby kept trying to jump down. It was only (around) 30 secs of trying when the doctor gave up and told him to get down and that he didn't have time for this as he used his hands to help PUSH him off the table. He walked out of the room and wrote us a prescription for allergies. When he came back I asked if he can check to see if it was dry skin or something. He started yelling (I am not kidding) at us saying if we can't control our dog and have him sit down on the table then he would have to put him out before he looks at him. His tone of voice was so demeaning and arrogant. I understand if someone can be afraid of a big dog. That was not the issue. It was how he handled the situation and the way he talked to us. He didn't offer to look at Toby on the floor where my dog was a lot more comfortable. He just handed us the pills and told us we needed to go. I went to the counter to pay for the pills and he (again) told us to leave and he didn't want us to pay for them. He was so upset with us that he would rather us LEAVE than pay for the medication and the "visit". Although I am outraged now, I was more shocked and confused while this was going on to even act angry. As soon as I left I called and asked to speak with someone and told the receptionist my story. She told me no one ever had a problem this doctor before (unlikely) and she trusts his judgement and that they would be more than happy to look at him if they were to tranquilize him because Toby is marked as a caution dog. I asked who marked him as that? He is such a baby. She said if the dog acts scared they do not know what they will be capable of doing so they have to treat them as if they may get aggressive. I can understand that! If he was nervous about what my dog might do and wanted to tranquilize him, then there was a WHOLE other way he could have said it, not treated us the way he did. I came in there concerned about my dog and left with pills that I have no idea will even help him. I don't recommend this place and I certainly do NOT recommend this vet. I am sorry to post such a long review but I felt I had to share my story.
Dr. Taff is our pets' vet... he is absolutely wonderful. He is extremely thorough in examining my pets when they have health problems. He is caring and compassionate toward both patients and their owners. We've been taking our cats and dogs to Lemay Animal Hospital for over 25 years, and I would especially recommend Dr. Taff to everyone who is looking for a good veterinarian.
