My wife took her minature dashound there this afternoon at about 4 o'clock for a small cut on her leg. Thirty five minutes later she was given her dog back along with a bill for $602. The cut was only about three quarters of an inch, and we weren't even certain it needed stitches. By coincidence I also received a bill from Missouri Baptist for an ER visit for one of my sons today. It was $377. Maybe next time we'll take her to Mo Bap if something happens.

My parents started taking our family dog to Dr. Knubley when I was 4 years old, and continued to see him for many years. When I got my first dog as an adult, I tried a couple clinics closer to where I was living at the time, and wasn't happy with any of them. I was always so impressed with the way the staff treated us, and the way they handled it when our family Beagle had to be put down. I live in Belleville, IL, which is about 20 miles from the clinic. Not convenient, but I'm happy to make the drive because of the amazing service I always get there. I've seen a few other reviews comment about the poor service. I will say there is one assistant who is very condescending and rude, but everyone else, including Dr. Knubley, is so amazing to work with. One visit in particular, 2 of my dogs got in a fight and one needed stitches. I drove the 20 miles to the office, called them on the way to let them know I'd be coming and why. Dr. Knubley was in the middle of a surgery when I got there, but one of his staff members sat with me in a room, trying to help me calm down (I was very upset and crying, it had been a scary fight), and sat with me the entire time while we waited for the surgery to be over, probably 30-45 minutes. Dr. Knubley then came in and was very gentle with Emmy while he stitched up her wounds. This was on a Tuesday, and the office is closed on Wednesdays. The assistant gave me her personal cell phone number to call if I had any problems when the office was closed. Very great service, if you ask me.

I have been taking my dogs to this office for the past four years and have never found the staff to be that friendly or impressive, but the office is close to home and I found the vet to be competent, so I continued to patronize them…. That is until today. Now I wouldn’t return to this office if they paid ME to come there…and I strongly recommend that you don’t either. I keep my dogs VERY up to date on their shots and care, nail trimming, teeth cleaning … you name it, and this lady treated me like a second class citizen…she must have been having a bad day, but I work in a HIGH stress position in the medical field and no matter how stressed I am, I always try to be courteous and professional to my patients – and I expect the same from others. The story in short is that I stopped by the office to pick up my dog’s shot records and some heartworm medication and walked in and was “greeted” by one of the vet tech/office personnel (we’ll call her Miss B.) Her poor attitude was apparent right from the first words we spoke. She acted like she was doing me a favor by giving me my dog’s shot records and when I went to purchase the heartworm medication she refused to sell it to me on the grounds that my dog’s had not been blood tested recently. I pointed out to her that they had never made me aware of this and she had the nerve to tell me that was MY responsibility…huh?...MY responsibility to know what is in THEIR records? I am not a vet… Excuse me Miss B, isn’t that your office’s job? Now, I am all for doing the things properly, and I pointed out to Miss B that in the past this had never been an issue, and she even ADMITTED to me that they had made the MISTAKE SEVERAL TIMES of providing me with heartworm medication without the proper testing (says a lot for their office’s competence doesn’t it?) I told her I was unable to bring my dogs in right away, but asked her if she would be willing to provide me with a temporary dose so that my dogs wouldn’t be unprotected and she flat out refused to help me. After some words between us she said “there’s the door sir” and I left. Obviously pet care and customer service comes second to money in this office. Normally I won’t expect the rules to be broken for me, I get that, but just a few months ago I had my dogs in their office and had spent well over $500, not to mention the THOUSANDS of dollars I have spent there in the past four years! I wish I would have never given them a dime! Oh, and when I called to complain to “Dr” Knubley about his rude staff-member, he couldn’t have cared less. I told him I would pull my dog’s charts and take my business elsewhere, he asked me where I wanted them faxed…nice guy let me tell you. Folks, these people don’t care about your pets; they care about the money in your bank account going into theirs, it’s as simple as that. By the way, I after this experience I drove down the street to another vet office where I walked in, explained the situation and was immediately accommodated. I am having my records sent there and have an appointment next week. Don’t waste your time at Oakville Vet Office.

Incompetent vet, horrible staff. If you care about your pets, please don't take them here.
