I actually took my cat to Animal Hospital East because it was right behind my house. Although Dr Kidney was very nice, he seemed to be pretty old school to me . Now that he has retired I really enjoy taking my cat there because...... Dr Matt was a vet tech at Animal Hospital East, and is newly schooled as a veterinarian so he knows all the latest on cat care and he really seems to bond with Gizi. He even takes time to call me months later to touch base.... SO I highly recommend Dr Matt at Animal Hospital East.

My husband and I have been taking our dog to Animal Hospital East for over 5 years; however, we will never take our dog there again. Dr. Kidney used to be our vet and he was wonderful. Very helpful and kind to our dog. However, after he left we've been very disappointed in the care we've received. The staff is very friendly but the ownership is not okay. Dr. Kuhn has being seeing my dog the past few times we've been there and he seems uninterested when I'm there. Even though my dog is healthy he kept pushing unnecessary procedures including teeth cleaning every 6 months; however, they did such a poor job cleaning my dog's teeth that he bled for weeks afterwards. We had to take him to another vet to confirm the damage. Additionally, when my dog had an altercation with a wild animal I called to confirm that was vaccinations were up-to-date. The staff thought it would be a good idea to bring him in to ensure everything was okay. My dog was slightly limping and his shoulder was sore but his temperament seemed fine. Even though I questioned the necessity of it Dr. Kuhn said my dog need an x-ray to ensure that his shoulder wasn't dislocated. When I came back to pick up my dog he didn't show me the x-ray just said that everything was okay and went about his business after that. I spent over $300 for absolutely nothing. Overall, my biggest concern is that I just can't trust Animal Hospital East. They seem out to make as much money as possible without any regard for the animals they should be taking care of. Asheville is an animal-loving city and there are plenty of great vets to choose from. I would highly suggest not going to Animal Hospital East.

We have always taken our pets to Animal Hospital East. All of the doctors and staff are wonderful and have always given the best care to our dogs. When are sweet dog Simon was sick and had to be put to sleep Dr. Emily Murr and another staff member came out to our truck and put him on a stretcher and carried him inside. They were all so caring through the whole process. Thank you for always showing our pets love and kindness!!! We would definitely recommend Animal Hospital East!! Lisa & Joey Osborne

I brought my wife's pet cat there because of some health complications. They performed an X-ray and asked if I was "okay with the x-ray costing around $400?" I agreed and then the Dr said they would have to do them again and charge me again because "one of the pictures was not done correctly." I, of course, said no to which they prescribed medication (why, if the results were inconclusive?) Long story short, a friend of mine said she used to be a vet asst there and knew that the Dr was charging people more if he knew they had money to spare or if they were desperate about loosing their pet, would re-do exams, double charge people, etc. Steer clear!!!!

I moved to Asheville from Charlotte in April, and my two small dogs show symptoms of allergies with the change in climate. I took my chubby little Chihuahua Poncho to the Animal Hospital East on the recommendation from a veterinarian in Gastonia. Dr. Kidney was outstanding. I had taken my other dog a week before to the Animal Hospital North but wasn't as impressed with the vet there. I'll drive the extra few miles to the East office from now on.
