I took my dog there for a routine checkup and vaccine update a few weeks ago. After trying to convince me to get him every vaccine in the book and my standing firm with just the necessary ones, they removed him from the room. When the vet came back, he informed me that my dog had an ear infection and a yeast infection between his toes. They had already given him treatment. The bill for all of these services was $350! I felt that I had no choice but to take care of my dog, but understand that not everyone just has that kind of money laying around. So I was told I needed to bring him back for a recheck. It did not occur to me that they would charge almost as much as a full checkup price for a recheck, so when they informed me that the recheck plus the reapplication of the ear medicine and the ear cleaner to take home was $90, I was very surprised. I can understand charging for a recheck, but $38 seems a bit ridiculous. I will not be returning to Mixed Pet.
I brought my Golden to see Dr. Ken at Stonecrest and had a great experience. I was able to drop off my dog in the AM and pick her up when everything was done- VERY CONVENIENT! The staff was very helpful and efficient. Dr Ken was excellent with my pet, took very good care of her, and communicated everything I needed. I'll be bringing my pets here for many years to come.
I hate this place. I've taken my cats here for.. oh.. about 3 years because I was too lazy to see a new vet, and I always would convince myself that "next time will be better".. the problem is that they are very pricey. One time I asked the vet if she thought my cat was a normal weight, because he's very slim, and you kind of boney, and she couldn't give me a straight answer. She recommended testing and had bloodwork and an ultrasound done on him to check his kidneys. After all that she said "you know, he looks normal to me, some cats are just thin".. and handed me a $400 bill for all the tests.. Thanks a lot!!! I wish she said that in the beginning. You know, feeding pet owners fears just to make more money off of them does NOT convert loyal customers! So you make less money by helping the pet owner one time, but the long term benefit of regular customers- isn't that better? Well.. I've poured so much money into these people, and ALWAYS spend well over $200 per visit with both cats and regular exams, it hardly seems worth it to me and I always leave angry. They pulled one on me again when I thought my cat was extremely ill.. He was drooling excessively and lethargic, I was told to bring him in immediately- she glanced at him, and said "he might just be nauseated" and slammed me with another bill and let me go. Jerks. Don't go here. Just don't.
DID NOT EXAMINE MY CAT! DIDN'T ANSWER QUESTIONS! DIDN'T SEEM TO CARE! I have been to this vet over four times by now. The first three visits were o’k, my cat just needed to get shots, and that is not that hard. I didn’t much like the fact that they take pets out of the room for shots, because I like to see what is being done to my baby that he is crying so loud, as well as comfort him with my presence, but I tried to live with that. However, once my cat got puffy eyelids and what looked like dark red wounds or dots on them, as well as scratching wounds in his ears, I also scheduled a health exam with a renewal of a shot. When I came in, there were no other people with their pets, so they weren’t busy. They showed me to the exam room right away, the assistant asked me a couple questions about my cat, took my cat out of the room for at the most a couple minutes (probably to get weighed and have his temperature taken), came back with the veterinarian who gave my a cat the shot, listened to him for a second, and THAT’S IT!!! Is this a 50$ health exam?!? Is this asking me questions about my cat to find out what’s wrong with him, giving me advice, etc??? So, I again, expressed my concerns about the cat to the veterinarian, told her that he has wounds in his ears, that his eyelids are sometimes so puffy that he can’t open his eyes, that we adopted a second cat and asked what should I do to help my first cat adjust to this change because he has been very upset... and she did nothing!!! Didn’t look in his ears, didn’t check out his eyes, just told me that she would need to do blood work and other tests to know what’s wrong with him, and that’s it! As for the issue with the new cat, she just told me that I should not leave the two cats alone in the same room. I don’t believe the doctor had a chance to give my cat a health exam in the three or less minutes that he was taken out of the room to get weighed, and she didn’t do it in the room. Thus, I came home terribly upset to still have my questions and concerns about my cat unanswered and having paid 50$ for something that never happened! I also asked her what should I be feeding him, and named a couple foods that I ordered to try to see which one he’d like ( Core Wellness, Orijen, Fromm's Surf & Turf, Solid Gold Indigo Moon and a couple others) and she just told me that I can put him on prescription food and left my questions about which one of this foods would be better for my cat, unanswered. It seemed as she had no idea what these foods were.(?!?!) I also wanted to ask what should I expect when I switch my cats to these high protein foods, since I read about some unusual things on the internet, but being so upset with her not expressing any interest or care for my cat and not answering any of my questions, (Or when answered, she just said –“Oh, he’s o’k), I didn’t even bother :(. I thought better of this clinic, but it has been a very upsetting experience today :(((. I guess I have to look for another one.
I would recommend this place. I moved to this side of town and both my parents and sister have taken their dogs here for years and have had no complaints and recommended this place to me. I've taken my dogs here for about 6 or 7 months. They were able to detect congestive heart failure in one of my dogs the previous vet did not so we were able to extend my dog's life thanks to these guys. When I've compared their prices to other vets they're the same, especially for the Ballantyne area, but I feel the service is better.
