A good portion of the staff is beyond rude and they seem to be far more focused on making money than on pet care. I understand the importance of running a business but if its all about the dollar signs for a vet, I don't want them looking at my dog. I adopted my first dog from the weekend adoptions there at PetsMart. Took him into Banfield, signed him up for the Wellness Plan, yada yada ya. We've had to have him get a skin scrape and meds for skin mites for the past 3 months. They charge an unreal amount for the meds that can be bought at Tractor Supply for WAY cheaper, you just have to dillute it and know the dosage for your dog's weight. When I mentioned this they said the high price was for handling and such. Really? The ability to do math and give us the proper amount? Oh, well they've screwed that up multiple times and we've had to come back to get more to make it to our next appointment. And the light sensitive bottle that is needed for this med? They've run out of it before and given me the most ghetto rigged bottle ever. So I'm paying for that? The two things they've screwed up? Gotcha. And we've had to treat him for Giardia but not before they told me we HAD to test for Parvo (another $40 charge on top of the $30 Giardia test charge). I now just got a second dog and he's got some tummy troubles. When I called to make the appointment, again, they said they HAVE to test for Parvo. Yeah, no. He's got diarrhea, that's it. No vomiting, no lethargy, no decreased appetite. Just diarrhea. Thank goodness I haven't signed this new puppy up for the Wellness Plan so I'm looking at different vets. It's like if your dog is having ANY digestive issues, they're going to make you pay for the Parvo test before they do anything else. Which is a bit lame. Honestly. Aside from all of that, we've waited on multiple occasions over 45 minutes after our appointment time to be seen...and we always show up early. When you go up to the front desk there's almost always a line (which is fine) but if they're on the phone or in the middle of resolving another issue when you walk up, they don't even look up and smile or say "give me just a minute please" or anything. They NEVER thank you for your patience of waiting in line for 10 minutes just to check in or anything. The front desk staff is beyond rude. The vet techs are usually the only ones I feel actually love dogs. Even the vets have gotten attitudes before. I tweeted a bad tweet about them and was told to call their Customer Care line so I did. When the vet who owns this Banfield called, he was defensive and acted as though he didn't understand why I was upset. I'm spent. I thought the Wellness Plan would be saving us money but after reading other reviews, I highly doubt it will. They're so rude and just don't care. The one dog we have on the Wellness Plan we've started driving out to the one in Aberdeen and the new puppy is going to be going to a local vet. I tried to give this location a good chance but they screwed up time and time again.
Good care but expensive. I've been to a lot of different of vets, some terrible, some great. As far as just service and quality is concerned this place is above average. PROS: The staff have always been very friendly and helpful whenever I've come here, and its convenient that its located in Petsmart in-case they recommend I get certain products for my dogs CONS: This place is really REALLLLY expensive. I ended up getting talked into getting the "Wellness Plan" for one of my dogs (they really push it). Its a nice concept and all but really unnecessary. Most of the services are superfluous and again, its expensive. My other dogs visit with just getting the basic bare minimums standard yearly check-up costed DOUBLE what I've ever paid anywhere else ever even though there was nothing wrong with him and he only needed a couple of vaccines since he was still good on a couple of them. and this was WITH a "free first visit" coupon. oh and I asked about the pricing for neutering, they charge about $250-ish. I'll be going somewhere else for that. (but seriously though, I really want to drive this point through, even on vet visits where my dog was sick, needed tons of blood work, medication, full vaccine line-up, etc, it only costed half what the bare minimums here costs, wtf.) So, even though the service is good its simply just not worth the price (for me anyways). Once my "Wellness Plan" contract is up I won't be returning.
Being a military family, I brought my dog here because no matter where we go in the US there is always a PetSmart to go to for healthcare. I got the healthcare plan and proceeded to go there for shots and regular check ups. Everything had been great until a couple weeks ago when I dropped my dog off for a follow up appt. When I went to pick my dog up I received back a terrified dog who wouldn't stop peeing everywhere. He peed 3 times inside the store and once all over the back seat of my car. He had never behaved this way - ever! I am not sure if he was walked at all the 9 hours he was left there but regardless, I have never seen him so scared in his life and it was only a follow up appt, no shots no surgery - just a check up. In addition, I was about to board my dog for vacation and asked them to give my dog a Bordetella shot because the boarder required one every 6 months. They refused saying they only give them once a year regardless of reason. This resulted in the boarder giving it and me paying more. I strongly suggest going somewhere else as they don't listen to the owners and seem pretty lazy.
I have taken my mini dachshund here every 6 months for him to get his glands done. when i had to take him in the first time they were so sweet with him. he is deaf and kinda weird about being held but they have always taken great care of him. took him to get neutered there as well and a little pricey only because i wasn't given the option to leave some things out but when i went to pick him up they took a while to bring him to me cause they all wanted to say good bye to him. Considering whenever he is alone he whines and howls i was surprised they were not ready to be rid of them. about to start taking my female there and i hope they are just as friendly with her.
I had to give a 1 star but I would prefer to give no stars. We just got a mico mini dachshund on June 1st. He came home and he was real sad and depressed like most 6 week old puppies would be when they go to a new home for the first time. He wasn't eating or drinking anything for 2 days so we had to force water and food down him with a syringe. He was getting a little better but still very dehydrated so we took him to petsmart with us to go get some nutracal to help him out (as our breeder told us to do). Well we ended up asking banfield if we should get him some puppy milk for him and they said "let us see him" and they took him and said he needs to be admitted right away or he is going to die. So they took him back and gave him and IV and some other stuff. Well we picked him up and the Dr. said she gave him 80ml of fluid and he should be getting better. Well we took him home and he was worse then when we brought him there. 3 hours after having him at home he started gasping for air, crying and screaming so we rushed him to the ER and he died on my husbands lap on the way their. Come to find out 80ml in a 2 pound dog is WAY to much and he should have only been giving 20ml at most. BANFIELD killed out puppy that we had for 6 days. They ER dr. said he died of pulmonary edema (which the number 1 cause of this to to much IV fluids). We are now filling a law suite unless they pay us in full for all medical expenses and what we payed for the puppy to begin with. If you want your animal to live please don't take him there. My husband and I are devastated with our puppy's lose and are canceling our 3 other animals plans with them.
