IF I could give this place 0 stars I would. My family and I used to bring our family pets to this vet, but not anymore. To be honest I always felt their prices were on the expensive side of the "vet pool," and didn't quite care for their vet assistants. They seemed kind of lax on procedures, but it was never that big of a deal until 2 years ago. My dad had passed away, and we had to put our very old, special needs chocolate lab in the vet because my mom wanted to take care of the wake and visitors without the worry of whether we needed to help him or not. We thought we could trust Academy East to care for him while we dealt with this. We were so wrong. I knew my baby was on his last legs, that he was very old. He had bad arthritis in his back legs and we almost always had to help him up when he wanted to move around. He would let us know he wanted to get up by whining and would give the oh so adorable lab eyes and try to get up on his own. We thought the vet understood this, concidering they're the ones who had been taking care of his issues! But boy were we wrong. The condition that he was in when we picked him up about 5 days later was horrendous. Not only did they NOT call when his condition got worse, like my mom had asked them to do if it did, but when we did call they said that he had been whining all week for us to come pick him up. He may have been lonely but he would never whine (barking was more his style), which to me sounded like they weren't helping him up and it didn't seem like they were giving him adequate exercise, which was paramount in keeping his back legs strong. We get there to pick him up and the people who took my old pup out the side door ON A STRETCHER, because he was in such bad shape, gave us the dirtiest looks because my mom was on the phone (talking to my dad's aunt about coming by the house) and must have thought we were just the most carefree people who didn't care that our dog was suffering. We knew that the time to let him pass was coming, but their attitude...oh gee sorry, my dad's passing got in the way of us putting our dog down. The next day we returned to do just that because we knew it was time, especially after the look he gave me when they took him out the door. It broke my heart. The actual vet I took my cat to seemed like a good person and doctor, but overall the treatment my family received was not at all appreciated and because of how we were treated we refuse to go back/give them any business. Maybe my experience was an isolated one, I have no clue how they have a 4.1 rating, and it has been a few years...But either way I would find a vet hospital that is more nurturing and knows how to take care of pets of all walks of life and age.
If you enjoy being charged multiple times for "procedures we forgot to bill you for on your last visit" as well as overpriced medications, then this is the place for you. The receptionist, Robin, is an incompetent moron. She never remembers what you tell her and acts confused every time you talk to her. I would strongly advise against going here.
We had a wonderful experience at Academy East they took our puppy right in for an emergency visit and they were their waiting for us to arrive and worked very diligently to help our "Buddy." All of the staff there were attentive to our needs and they were very understanding and helpful in our time of need. I would gladly recommend the animal hospital to anyone who cares about their pet.
We have always received amazing care from the whole staff here! We see Dr. Bray and she is always attentive and gentle (but thorough). Their offices are modern and fully equipped, but everyone makes a point to get to know you and form a good relationship. You can tell they all really care about your pets. The past year we battled several issues with our Golden Retriever, including cancer and arthritis issues. Dr. Bray always gave us a full range of options for care. When we got to the point we could no longer afford aggressive treatment, she helped us to create a care plan to manage her symptoms until it was "time" without any pressure one way or the other. When we had to let our sweet girl go, the whole office showed us compassion, even the receptionist as we arrived for the appointment. We could not ask for a better group of people! For the record, I was always informed us about generic brand options. Specifically for over-the-counter pain and allergy medications. I was told it was no problem to get whatever brand I preferred so long as the active ingredient and dosage was equivalent.
