I was referred here by my cockatiel breeder and took my 2-month old baby for his/her first checkup. I was able to get an new patient appointment fairly quickly, which is great. All the staff, from check-in to checkout, were caring and addressed all my novice questions, being a new "mom". Dr. Dan spent a good amount of time asking questions and handled my baby carefully. I didn't feel rushed at all. Yes, the amount was about equal to what I paid for birdie but I consider it money well spent for a thorough exam. Will go back.

I took my macaw to Dr. Johnson last week for her annual check up. Dr. Johnson was extremely patient, caring and thorough. Several days later he personally called me when the blood work results were back to share them with me. I couldn't ask for a nicer or more compassionate and patient vet. I will continue to go there for all my bird's medical needs.

Called on a Saturday morning about an emergency as my pet was visibly suffering. I was told there were no openings unless I wanted to pay double the normal rate and then they would try to make an opening. Really?? Where's their compassion? It's obviously money over everything else here. I guess they're willing to inconvenience their other customers if you pay them off but not because it's an emergency. Any vet I've dealt with previously would always take an emergency over non-emergency appointments AND not charge double the normal fees. I asked to have a Dr call me about other treatment options left for my pet as I couldn't really afford to pay this exorbitant fee only to be told there was nothing left they could do. The treatment given was not helping and the pet was still suffering. Was told a Dr. would return my call that same day. They never returned my call until late Monday afternoon and by then it was too late. What a horrible business where you would think one would find a staff of caring, compassionate individuals and instead you're greeted with an uncaring, cold-hearted, greedy business. I wouldn't let them treat a pet rock here! Why would anyone want to take their pet to someone whose only concern is how much money they can squeeze out of you.

We found Avian and Exotic Animal Care when moving to this area and searching for a board certified avian vet for our birds. I was impressed with what I had read about them in other reviews and what I saw on their website. We have several birds of our own and now have founded a bird rescue (Marden's Ark Avian Refuge) in honor of our three-year-old African Grey who was died from systemic Aspergillosis related to eating something that was highly contaminated with the spores. We take all birds to Avian and Exotic Animal Care and I have been extremely impressed with both the level of care and expertise, and the excellent "bedside manner" of ALL the staff. They have convenient hours (open until 6pm and open Saturdays by appointment. So far I have not had the pleasure of seeing Dr. Dan Johnson (except from a distance) but have seen both Dr. Leonatti and Dr. Eckermann-Ross and both have been super with the birds. Unlike many doctors and some vets I have seen, they are not in a rush to get you in and out in ten minutes or less. They genuinely care about your pets, and it shows in how they treat both the customer and their little patients. I had FOUR birds in yesterday, and yet Dr. Eckermann-Ross was extremely patient (despite a lot of uncooperative birdie antics) and even after seeing four of them asked if there was anything else she could do for us! The level of kindness, gentleness and patience makes all the difference in the world in how my birds react to the staff here. I have taken animals to many vets across three states and for all kinds of creatures - wild and domestic and I have to say Avian and Exotic Animal Care are among the best of the best. Even the techs are kind and gentle and caring. We have seen them for everything from the aforementioned Aspergillosis, to an acute respiratory infection to reshaping of malformed beaks to routine well-baby visits! The caring and compassion from the entire staff at the time of Marden's death was amazing and beyond that which I have seen in human hospitals at times. There is even an online portal where you can log in and see your pets' records. I just can't say enough good about this practice and I highly recommend them to anyone seeking competent, specialized and compassionate care for their birds or exotic pets.
