As the owner of two cats, one with IBS, I've spent a fair bit of time at The Sound Cat over the last three years. I've had the pleasure of dealing with both Dr. Williams and Dr. Rockwell and have found them, like the rest of the staff here, to be knowledgeable and pleasant; Anita, at the front desk, even knows me, and my kitties, by name! Also, Cricket, the friendly office Sphynx cat, and all the adoptable kitties are fun to visit with if you happen to be waiting for your appointment or test results. I greatly appreciate how complete this facility is and that tests and procedures are done promptly in-house. I also appreciate being in the room for my cat's many ultrasounds and that both Dr. Rockwell and Dr. Williams took the time to explain what they were seeing during the ultrasound exam. In terms of price, I can't complain especially since I have two healthy cats, one with a chronic illness (which Dr. Rockwell diagnosed and keeps in check). For large procedures, such as surgery, I was provided with an itemized price quote which was not exceeded; for prices on everything else, I just ask! I was also able to take advantage of a dental promotion for some necessary (tooth extraction) dental work which made the procedure more affordable. Finally, when my kitty had a run in with a fish hook (my one and only "emergency" so far) I was seen immediately and the hook was removed quickly and for free! If I could only find a vet this wonderful to take my dog to, I'd be all set!

I think they really care about cats but more than they care about your cat is their love of MONEY! I don't think they are all that thorough and definitely way too costly. I absolutely resent the amount of profit these places make off of people. It's disgusting. I understand needing to make a profit but at the sake of robbing people blind? Come on now. If you cared that much about animals maybe you would want to sacrifice a bit so that more of them actually have the privilege of being seen by you...

This is a great vet office. Convenient and very courteous. There's always water and coffee in the waiting area and the staff is always nice. This is a more expensive than average vet office, but you get what you pay for. As long as my wife and I have a cat, we'll continue bringing it here. I deducted 1 star for the price.

The Sound Cat is terrible. Since they only treat cats, I would think I would have gotten better care for mine. My cat had a problem with scratching really bad and looked like she had an eye infection, so I decided to take her here. They said it may be a skin allergy, and to change her food. They also put her on steroids. I had to come back for more of the eye medication, because it had spread to her other eye. Less than a month after the steroids ran out, she was back to scratching just as bad, if not worse, along with vomiting. So we took her back in this past week, and now it's a flea allergy. Our normally sweet cat had to be sedated to get an x-ray, which they neglected to inform us costs $80. I was more concerned about my cat, almost in tears after hearing her yowl and scream in the back, to worry about asking the cost. I wrongly assumed that it was necessary. It turns out that nothing wrong showed up on the x-ray. The first bill was just under $90, and this last was just under $215. The only time we were told the cost of anything was the flea medicine for $10. Along with that, my cat has been on medication for 3 days and is still vomiting. My husband called to complain about the lack of information during the visit and the fact that my cat was still sick. The woman who answered the phone told him it was our responsibility to ask about costs, and to get some generic pepcid ac from wal-mart and to call back if she was still vomiting. I do not recommend going here, unless you have plenty of money to spend on multiple visits.

Pros: Cats only. Dr Williams is experienced. Cons: Expensive. Sure all vets are pricey, but this one takes it a bit far. I have gone to the Sound Cat at least a dozen times and spent more than a couple thousand dollars over the course of a year and I can say with certainty that there is price gouging going on. The price varies from visit to visit and they do not tell you how much things are going to cost before doing them. The service varies as well. I think that Dr Williams is a smart, experienced doctor, and for the most part she has made good decisions regarding the health of my cats, but she does not do thorough enough examinations, and she is too quick to provide black and white answers. For instance, the last time I was there I asked Dr Williams to inspect the area where my cat had surgery to make sure there was no regrowth. First, she starting inspecting the wrong paw. When I said it was the other paw, she started examining that paw but in the wrong area as the surgery was higher up on the paw. I could not get her to really look at it. She seemed very rushed and spent barely a minute on the examination, at an earning of $38 per minute. And the surgery I'm talking about (removal of cancer) occurred after Dr Williams sent me away twice stating (incorrectly but with unwarranted certainty) that my kitty just had a simple cyst. Why be so black and white when there's no way to know for sure if it was a benign cyst or a cancerous one? Lack of clear answers. I find it difficult to get Dr Williams to give me answers regarding my cat's chronic disease. She is always rushed and when she does answer questions, I no longer feel confident in the answers. For instance, my cat's last blood test revealed that her meds might be interfering with kidney function. When I asked about this, she said don't worry about it. I don't think that much went into this reply. She didn't re-examine the dose amount for instance. She didn't suggest taking another look at the numbers in a couple months time. While she might be right (I hope so), I don't feel confident in her response and I feel that I may need another opinion. So, why haven't I switched vets yet? A couple reasons. First, I am new to the area and this was the only recommendation I received and I won't go to another vet without a recommendation. Secondly, I do not like the idea of switching vets after being established at this location, particularly in regards to my kitty's chronic disease. One hope is the new doctor there - Dr Snook. I've only seen her twice but she seems more approachable than Dr Williams.
