Dr. Gillis is the most amazing vet anywhere in this area!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had great difficulty finding a vet after moving to the area for years. A friend referred me to Dr. Gillis about 12 years ago, and I would not consider taking my pets any where else now She is truly a compassionate person with a great love for the animals and their guardians. I am forever grateful to her for the care and treatment we have always received by her. She has seen me lose three of my babies, and she was as concerned for me as them. That is treasure! Her office also works with Forgotten Felines and has always provided the same compassionate treatment for them as any other animal. She is a gem!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've had a horrible time finding a vet in the Winston-Salem area that I actually like. The first time I took my dogs here we saw Dr. Gillis and I instantly liked her. I truly believe she cares about her patients. The second time we went I forgot to specify that I wanted to see Dr. Gillis. I remembered a few days before and tried to switch but Dr. Gillis was unavailable and since my dogs needed their heartworm medicine I decided to keep the appointment with Dr. Anderson. I should have postponed. She walked in the door and had hardly glanced at my dogs when she brusquely announced "Of course both of these dogs are overweight". She then proceeded to give me a pitch about this amazing new diet dog food to which no other diet dog food in the known universe can compare. She didn't ask what or how much I feed them. She didn't ask if they get exercise or how much exercise they get. Nope. Straight to the super-duper dog food from heaven (which, of course, I would be buying from them). I know my dogs are a bit overweight (which we are working on the traditional way, with fewer treats and longer walks) so this is not my issue with her. My problem with Dr. Anderson is that I felt more like a customer than the parent of her patients. Just someone else to sell something to, to make money off of. So in the future I will be sure we're seeing Dr. Gillis. She really does seem to care.
The veterinary services were adequate here, but the prices are outrageous. A $20 distemper shot for a recently rescued kitten cost $60 dollars because a non-optional $40 dollar wellness exam is included even though the kitten was just at the vet a week prior having a wellness exam. And the $20 dollar heart worm comes with a $5 dollar hazardous waste disposal fee to throw the feces in the trash.
They work with the forgotten felines of forsyth county and treat the feral cats with as much compassion as you would expect for the family pet.
