I have two dogs who I brought to Bloomingdale Animal Hospital simply because it was conveniently located; I have another holistic vet that we see but it's quite a ride to get there, so I thought it would be good to have someone a little more local for minor issues or emergency situations. Well, I may need someone a bit more local, but this place will not be it. They care little about the dogs and all about the $. In the first instance, I felt the doctor was extremely aggressive in his treatment of my puppy's giardia-- prescribing 2x the dosage that a different vet had given my older dog when he had the same issue as a pup, as well as an additional, seemingly unnecessary prescription. It cost 3x what it had cost to treat my first dog for the same issue, and my puppy got way more medicine in her little system than she needed. I then brought in my other dog to get a prescription for him since he had been exposed to the puppy with giardia. I had to pay for him to have a full new patient exam, which consisted of weighing him and listening to his heart-- maybe 5 minutes. I paid my holistic vet twice the amount for the exam she does on new patients, but she spends a full hour with the dogs and is very thorough. I don't mind paying for quality. But quality is NOT what you get at the Bloomingdale Animal Hospital. Finally, when my younger pup needed to be spayed, I asked for a quote to repair a small hernia during my puppy's spay, and I was quoted $100-- maybe more if additional anesthesia was needed. The place we ended up going to did it for free, since they were already in there anyway. I wasn't looking for the procedure to be free, but the fact that another provider didn't charge extra for it suggests it couldn't have been all that involved or time consuming. If you want to be milked for your money at the expense of quality veterinary care, by all means, Bloomingdale Animal Hospital sounds like the place for you.
The Vets and staff and Bloomingdale, were compassionate, skillful and empathetic with regard to my late dog Buddy. I highly recommend them. The Techs and front desk people are extremely kind and helpful. The Vets go the extra mile and provide alot of value.
I am currently taking my cat here for treatment after finding he has diabetes. Dr. Buren who is there on most Fridays has been very helpful and informative about feline diabetes and is doing a great job with my cat and getting his blood sugar regulated. I have also found the staff to be very friendly as well.
Absolutely First-Rate! Dr. Tucker and her staff were compassionate, knowledgeable and friendly when I brought in my ailing dog for an emergency examination. I am an entrepreneur with little free time so I didn't do much research. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised when I basically just picked the closest Vet to my home and received such exceptional service. The condition of the facility is clean and odor free. The technician was kind and patient with my dog and Dr. Tucker explained things clearly after examining my pet. I am relieved (good prognosis for my dog) and very appreciative of the excellent services provided to me.
Worst vet experience ever--brought a new (shelter) puppy to Dr. Tucker for general exam and treatment of Demodex. She said she needed to work up a treatment plan and would call me later that day. 2 weeks went by with no word on the care plan OR the results of a stool sample I had left. I followed up with their office twice before she called me back herself and with a chuckle said her tech was supposed to call me and forgot!! My dog has Mange and needs care and your tech forgot. I had my puppy's records sent to another hospital where they informed me she had Giardia--a contagious parasite that Bloomingdale tested her positive for had never called me to tell me about!!! Its not only contagious for our other animals, but also to my husband and I. Now, I have to treat BOTH my dogs for this condition and it has cost me $$$ in repeating tests and exams to get their health straightened out. Not to mention the puppy has double fungal ear infections--another oversight during Dr. Tuckers exam. To top it all off, they are charging almost double the fees for the same vaccines as other animal hospitals--I paid $73/shot for my dogs lymes vaccine and it costs $32/shot at the new hospital. Plus--she didn't have the know enough to pre-test my dog before administering the vaccine, which I've learned is very dangerous for him. If you care about your animals you will not leave them in the care of Bloomingdale Animal Hospital or Dr. Tucker.
