I was referred to Aztec by a friend when my pet was experiencing problems with his eye. It was easy to make the appointment which was great for the urgency of the situation. During the first visit, the vet was very helpful in offering a solution through medication and seeing a specialist. When I had picked my pet up, the tech that I spoke with said seeing the specialist would be about $100 which I thought was reasonable due to the situation. When I called to make an appointment with the specialist, the receptionists told me it would be $236 dollars which did not include medication or treatment. I was a little upset to find that charge was more than double so I decide to follow up with the Vet at Aztec instead. After a few more follow up appointments, it was apparent that I was being stringed along and my pet was not improving as hoped. It was also bothersome that every time we went in, the vet would make me feel guilty about not going to a specialist for treatment even after explaining to her my budget concerns. In our last visit, the vet decided to bring in another vet who had an expertise in eye care. I was even more frustrated at this point that I wasn’t referred to this other vet to begin with. The vet concluded that the eye would either be removed (costing $1200-$1600) or need to see a specialist in reference to another possible procedure (costing $2200-2800). I ended up seeking a second opinion and I am glad I did! The vet at the other clinic stated that his eye would not need to be removed and that would have been an extreme measure. This saved me over a thousand dollars. While I was extremely disappointed with the service I received from the vet, Hope and Ellen who are part of administrative staff were amazing! They were considerate of my financial concerns and for my pet’s well-being.
Aztec Animal Clinic is one of the best vet experiences I have had. I have been with them for four years now, finding them when tragedy struck and a kitten in my home contracted FIP. They took great care of us, worked with my budget. I am on a fixed income and I cannot always afford all the care we want and they try to find ways to make it happen anyway. I did a financial comparison when I changed over to them as well, and the previous vet while good in quality had attitude issues and was so expensive I was afraid to take my pets in outside of emergencies. Aztec was at the time of my change over the least expensive option I could find. To help with the chronic and on going medications of one of my cats, who has a chronic health condition that went undiagnosed until Aztec and would have died without them, they did some research accommodating my allergies to a medication that she needed and finding a less expensive medicine to boot. So she is healthy and so am I. Their facility is entirely wheelchair accessible, it is clean, and the staff are wonderful. I enjoy my interactions with them despite them being borne out of medical necessity. In fact whenever anyone asks me for a vet or asks where I go, I gladly send them to Aztec.
I took my cats to Aztec Animal Clinic for many, many years. The veternarians and veternary technicians are all very dedicated, well educated and compassionate. They have always taken care of my animals. The care and treatment plans they put together are above average. However. They are on the high end of pricing for a veterinary clinic. While the care and treatment are excellent, there are other clinics that provide the same level of treatment and care for far less money. The staff is constantly trying to upsell you to purchase something just a little more expensive, or offer optional additions to treatments which add up substantially to the final bill. The front desk staff often took an inordinately long time to check me in or out, regardless of the amount of money I was spending. Availability for appointments is excellent. Adversely, wait times to get my cats seen were very long at random times with no explanation. This included waiting in the lobby as well as waiting in the examination rooms for a vet tech and then the vet. They saved the lives of two of my cats. But it took all of my savings to do it. I go to another clinic now that costs much less, though I am still grateful to Aztec Animals Clinic for the care they gave to my cats. If I had a cat in critical condition and needed a second opinion on care I would likely choose Aztec to take my animal to.
I really love this clinic. The staff are great and I have been able to get last-minute appointments easily when emergencies came up.
It is hard to put stars on this place. On one hand, the actual vet, Dr. Benoit Boucher, is tops, absolutely excellent. On the other hand, going here is never a pleasant experience. I leave every time with a whopping great bill, top dollar for everything: prescriptions, examination, labs, extras galore all in a haze of obfuscation. And the front desk staff is part of the unhappy experience, long waits on-hold, we have an appointment in July "stuff" and attitude. I always get the sense they are royalty and I am supplicant. I could more easily bite the bullet on the costs if I didn't have to put up with the condescension.
