I have seen four of the five vets with three different animals. All were friendly, knowledgeable and professional. Appt. times are kept and the appts. do not feel rushed. There is always time allowed for clarifying and questions. I have been delighted by the fact that they are quite aware of costs, doing unnecessary tests, money saving alternatives, etc. They are not a "jump to the most expensive and invasive solution" first type of practice. Well-trained techs and front desk staff as well. I was really concerned about finding a new vet (having just moved to ABQ) and they came highly recommended. It's easy to see why.
My 3 month old Chihuahua Dachshund mix decided it would be a great idea to eat a sewing pin. After calling the ABQ Animal Emergency Clinic and hearing that it would be $75 just to have him seen, and another $140 just for one x-ray, my boyfriend and I decided the pup seemed fine and we'd wait until morning (this happened at 10 pm) to go to our normal vet (these guys). I left them a message that night and was called as soon as they opened. They took him in immediately and I paid the exact price I was quoted which included the exam and 2 x-rays(the price was less than just an x-ray at the emergency vet). They told me to come pick up my pup because it looked like it would pass fine without surgery and took me back to show me the x-rays and explain everything for me. About 9pm last night, he passed the needle and I was able to sleep easy. (To add to it, they asked me to call and let them know he passed it to make sure he was okay, and all of the receptionists know us by name. The one I spoke to this morning sounded very very happy to hear he passed it-these guys really do care about your pets). They are all so incredibly friendly and you can tell they all have a passion for what they do. My pup has had all his vaccinations here and every vet we've seen has been kind and able to answer any and all questions I may have. The receptionists are all also very knowledgeable and are total sweethearts. I must have called every hour to check on my pup and they were always willing to update me on his status and called me as soon as something new came up. They also told me that every chance they got, they went back to give him some love and attention as he's a pretty anxious little dude-I really appreciated that. I will stick with these guys for as long as I'm in the area, and I highly recommend them!
I needed to have my dogs teeth cleaned and BCAC was recommended by some people that I work with. I have 3 dogs and had all of their dental cleaning and some extractions done. I had an appointment to take the dogs in for an initial exam which was very informative as far as I was explained everything and not just told yes they need their teeth cleaned. I was told that they might have to have extractions done and was anticipating the costs. I took the two dogs with the worst teeth in first and was surprised by the care and outcome that we received. The cost was extremely affordable and the follow up after leaving the office very unexpected from past experiences with vets. I received two calls after to check on the dogs. I did have the last dogs teeth cleaned with the same attention to detail, caring and afforbability. Awesome! Will be dropping other place where I took them before that had no compassion and the owner yelled and her staff in front of customers. Will not miss that.
I have taken my cat for microchipping and vaccinations, and my dog for vaccinations and dental cleaning. The cost has come out lower than expected every time (maybe I'm just too used to being overcharged by VCA). In addition, I have now met three of the doctors and they are all great. They are honest, straightforward, kind, and I have no sense that I'm being upsold on anything.
I took my dog to Blue Cross and they handled him kindly. He had lupus and Dr Wheeler suggested that the big-box pet store vet may have been over vaccinating and overstimulating his immune system leading to autoimmune disease. We put him on a reduced "Older Dog" vaccine plan and treated the lupus. Soon the lupus was well under control, and so were my costs. Nice. I drove cross town past dozens of other vets to see Dr. Wheeler and the crew.
